So, my friend has this theory: he thinks that the Lord Ruler, during his fight with Vin, used a Duralumin burst with Atium that he had compounded, letting him see several years into the future.  He decided that Vin could handle Ruin better than he, and, since he was sick of living (I mean, who wants to live for a thousand years where your noblemen hate and fear you and your vassals hate you), he let Vin win.

Tell me what you think.

First this topic should be in cosmere theories, not the introduce yourself board, but I don't really think that it holds a lot of weight, as his last words are (Paraphrased) "You don't know what you've done, you have doomed us all"

Edit: She also had to really, REALLY work to kill him, it's not like she just walked in and he let himself be beaten at any point during that fight. He even panicked when he realized she had ripped off his atium metalminds, knowing that their loss would cause him to die

I don't believe he had any Atium burning at any stage during the fight, he was constantly surprised by attacks, etc. and he would have had to have already swallowed it before Vin arrives.
One of the mods should move this topic soon

Interesting theory.

Firstly yeah, this needs to move and have spoiler tags on it. Every time someone posts Mistborn 3 spoilers without a warning, a kitten dies (which actually does not bother me, I hate cats).

I actually disagree with the rebuttals - had Rashek not said 'you have doomed us all', Vin would have reacted differently to events of book 2. So if the OP's theory is true then Rashek would have known to say that. This doesn't mean I agree with the theory, I see it as unprovable and plausible but improbable.

I think she just got lucky.. she's a good fighter and a great character but i think she was lucky.

Rashek seems to selfish to pull punches. Pity we didn't get a chance to see a Fullborn in action though.

There's also the fact that TLR was already corrupted by Ruin at that point so it's highly unlikely that he would have done something like that to help further Preservations goals.

Which is kind of ironic, given that Ruin probably rigged events so that Vin would kill the Lord Ruler.

I don't think that the Lord Ruler let her win, rather, Ruin and Preservation let her win.

Think about it. Preservation knew what Vin was going to do (help save the world), and Ruin knew she'd release him from his prison, so both of them wanted the Lord Ruler out of the way. If Vin had not had both gods working for her, she would not have beaten the Lord Ruler.
