What if the reasons why Glys needed to become enlightened, and how Szeth became Truthless, were the same?

The time had come for a decision to be made.    

Glistening-in-Sunlight had been considering it for some time, and now he knew what he had to do. He told only a few of his plan. Some were eager to see honor return to men.    

Others were more skeptical. “Remember the betrayal,” these told him. Their warnings called images of spren of dull, gray smoke, their beautiful crystalline faces cracked and sightless to his mind.    

Glistening-in-Sunlight had heeded their warnings at first. But Shadesmar was changing, and those changes only foreshadowed a greater threat that had yet to fully manifest.  

For a time, the lessons of the past had balanced his fears of the future. The scales were tipping, however, and not in a direction approved of by those who cautioned that he was too young and inexperienced to take such a risk.    

Glistening-in-Sunlight made his decision. “I will go,” he said, standing firm beneath the disapproving gaze of his elders. “This must be done. The enemy cannot be allowed to return, regardless of the consequences to myself.”
