Thought Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 He probably had duralumin, but if not, then he probably had an extra rioting or soothing spike, too. We know, after all, that he controlled a large army of Koloss, and normal soothers/rioters weren't powerful enough for that. Thus, he was probably in turn missing one of the base powers (or had gold allomancy replaced). Assuming he didn't replace any spikes, then it wouldn't surprise me if he was missing Copper(F) or Zinc(F). Not much need to think or remember if Ruin if directing your every move.
Odium's_Shard Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 (edited) I'm sure that TLR had some knowledge of the fact that Koloss were re-using spikes while he was controlling the army, however the process of Koloss re-using spikes can be shortened when Hemalurgical decay is considered. For example: TLR makes Koloss, who he believes have a population decline (without his influence) that will mean that 2 years after no input is received they will have imploded. However, the Koloss are (presumably by Ruin) informed of the possibility of re-using spikes. This would mean that their numbers would now last six years, which is a number that Ruin would consider adequate. However, again, with Hemalurgic decay (that is the effect of energy leaking from Hemalurgic spikes while they aren't contained in living flesh) their power and effectiveness would diminish over this time, and the time they could last without TLR would now be shortened to three years. In this situation, TLR's plans of a civilization without him, including the resource chambers/depots and the possibility of Ati taking dominion over all Hemalurgic constructs, would still uphold. Inquisitor #5 Posted March 5, 2012 Author Posted March 5, 2012 I'm pretty sure that he riots Marasi's curiousity at the end of AOL, so you can probably make Zinc a confirmed power. Derp, you'd think I haven't read that book four times.

Duralumin is a confirmed power, Sazed mentions it in one of the epigraphs of Hero of Ages. Also, this is noted about Marsh; "Rain ran down his [Marsh's] skin, dripping from the spikes that sprouted from his chest. One between each set of ribs." (Hero of Ages, TOR paperback, p. 631) Now, this one is, according to me, a bit, unclear. What is normally refered to as a "set of ribs" is, as far as I know, a pair across. One left, one right. I'll assume that people from Scadrial have a skeletal structure closely resembling or even identical to ours. Now, if the interpretation that each "set" is a pair across is correct, Marsh has, at least, 12 spikes in his chest (Homo Sapiens have 24 ribs, or 12 sets of ribs). However, the first Inquisitor we see in the book, the one I used for example purposes earlier, is noted to have most of the spikes in its chest between the ribs, as in one rib above, one rib below. If that's how we're supposed to interpret the part I quoted then Marsh has at least 22 spikes in his chest alone. And even if the first interpretation is correct he has a total of at least 21. 2 eyes, 1 shoulders, 6 ribs, 12 chest. Edited March 7, 2012 by Inquisitor #5 1

And even if the first interpretation is correct he has a total of at least 21. 2 eyes, 1 shoulders, 6 ribs, 12 chest. I have some more data to add: Marsh states that he has 11 spikes, originally (epilogue of Final Empire). As far as I can tell, he doesn't gain any new powers during WoA (he just becomes more proficient) so his number of spikes is still 11. Now, in chapter 13 of HoA Marsh states: "Of all the Inquisitors, Marsh had been given the largest number of new spikes - he had ten new ones planted at various places in his body." (emphasis added) So, if we assume that Ruin is done adding new spikes to Inquisitors as of Chapter 13, then Marsh has a total number of 21 spikes. I think the location of the spikes are mostly in between the middle and lower ribs (numbers 4-9, with number 1 being the rib at the top of the ribcage). Remember that Vin isn't a doctor, so for her, "ribs" probably just refers to the ones that are easily visible. For Marsh, I would say his spikes are located: Originally: 2 eyes, 1 upper back and 8 ribs (4 on each side) (I believe this is specifically mentioned in the epilogue of Final Empire.) After Ruin: Add 2 more in the ribs (for 10 total), then the rest distributed through the shoulders (ala Spook), chest (the Inquisitor at the beginning of HoA), and upper arms (like Quellion). Possibly some through his back, upper leg or butt. (Maybe...)
