He took a deep breath, and the light began to fade away. She could see his face again, teary-eyed and haunted.

She led him into the kitchen. “What do you feel like eating? Oh, there’s roasted chicken.”

She was worried about him. It hurt to see him sad… there had to be something she could do.

He met her eyes. "I would have tried to find you, I promise I would have. I just didn't remember... How could I do that?"

Turing raised an arm, still communicating tension somehow despite his lack of readable expression.

Lerac just shook his head. "I can't heal him."

Golden light still enveloped TAAron, and he shook with his sobs, barely seeming to hear her.

“You can’t?”

“I know,” she assured him. “It’s okay.”

Bubbles in a sea of iron, clawing, breathing but impossible.

She stiffened. “It’s okay,” she repeated.

"No. I don't think he's... truly alive, exactly. I can't feel a living presence from him."

"You don't really believe that."

“But… he’s not dead either?”

"No. He has never been living. I can feel all sorts of different types of living beings, magical or not, but Turing isn't one of them." Lerac seemed somewhat bothered by this.

Turing spoke up. "What does that mean? I'm not...? I certainly feel alive."

"That... that doesn't make sense..."

"Maybe not. Or maybe he's just something different."

"But I must have made myself forget somehow. I remember being in the fight with Kaos, going unconscious, and when I woke up... It was gone. You were gone."

"What else is there?"

She turned to Turing. "What did you say had happened to you?"

"Someone destroyed most of me. I think. It feels like a very long time ago."

Her mouth tensed in frustration. She glanced at Lerac. "There's nothing you can do?"

"No. There's nothing for my magic to interact with. I'm not sure why that is, since he doesn't seem all that different from some types of magical spirits I've met."

"... I'm sorry, Turing. I really thought he'd be able to help you."

"It's okay. You could not have known." He sounded painfully sad and confused.

"I'm sorry too," Lerac said honestly.

Aventine breathed out slowly.

Aventine breathed out slowly.

"I can find another way to get better, right?"

Lerac shrugged. "I don't see why not. But it's nothing I know how to deal with. It's not even under my master's influence." This, again, seemed to concern him.

She shook her head. "It's nice to see you again, Lerac," she muttered. Without saying anything else, she left her room.

Is she just upset that she couldn't help Turing?

Lerac frowned slightly. He nodded at Turing. "Best of luck." Then he followed Aventine out.

That's a large chunk of it

Remember all her injuries?

Those were from one of her adopted sons, whose urn is now in her room

“Well, you must have had a good reason.”

She hoped he had.
