A quick, lilting melody escaped his lips, full of life, full of new beginnings, and containing many happy endings. Pic hummed the same short melody a few times, not adding to it. After about 30 seconds, he turned to watch and see if Aventine would sing along. 

Deep down, she wanted to. But just like always, when she tried to claim something for herself, it always went back to him. He had trained her in music to make her more attractive. He had designed the scars on her arms with his belt.

And you've left him behind, she reminded herself. Softly, she echoed.

Her eyes were still a little red from crying, but they were mostly normal, and other than that she looked fine. She nodded.

Pic refused to loop his song, he needed to hear everything that was going on. He heard Aventines echo, and echoed her echo. He stopped leading the song, and followed her echoes, waiting to see if she would continue.

Pic chuckled at JM’s behavior, and continues singing with Aventine. As she takes melody, Pic shifts to a purely harmony role. He supports the happy melodies that Aventine is singing, even though she didn’t look like she felt them at the moment. She did look like she needed the happy melodies though. As the song continues, he puts a hand over her hand.

He supports the happy melodies that Aventine is singing, even though she didn’t look like she felt them at the moment. She did look like she needed the happy melodies though. As the song continues, he puts a hand over her hand. 

She flinched and her arm jerked - like she had tried to pull it away but stopped partway through the action. Because she had. It's not like that here.

She stopped. "Sorry."

Pic shrugs, grips the armrest of Aventines chair, and hums a conclusion to this song by speaking, “It’s your hand, so you have nothing to apologize for. It’s not like you took my hand.” He fell quiet, and looked at Aventine with concern.

Tal blinked. “It’s not…like, a secret or anything. A few years, mostly I’m in charge of greeting new people, making sure everyone gets a room, that sort of thing. And, of course, making sure no one with…bad intentions comes into the clinic.” Yes…we will destroy them. Tal blinked at the voice in his mind, shivering slightly.
