Aryanath
Hey! There's been something that I've been wondering about for a while. In the Emperor's Soul, Day 12, Shai explains both that individual inanimate things have souls and that the longer an object sees itself as a whole, the more likely it is to acquire an aggregate identity instead of being the sum of its parts. This too, has a soul. Thus, a table has a soul, a wall has a soul. But before these things were made, it is implied that individual wood planks and individual blocks of stone were distinct entities, each with their own souls. So what happens when they're combined into a new object? Do their souls merge? Does a new soul get created for the aggregate object that lords over the individual souls of its parts? Something else? Kurkistan he/him
Jasnah's experience in Shadesmar--touching beads for doors and wall-lamps as well as the bead for the whole building--suggests that these individual identities are subsumed rather than destroyed.
