Sylverlightweaver Posted August 8, 2023 Posted August 8, 2023 The light coming from "the star" that can be seen from Komashi is the only light that penetrates the shroud. The shroud is pure investiture. So I'm thinking, what pierces/counteracts investiture? Silver! Could this be silver light?!? Hoid says he thinks the light has something to do with Virtuosity splintering herself, because apparently she did that near "the star" (aka UTol). What do you think the light is and why can it pierce the shroud when light from their sun cannot?

What do you think the light is and why can it pierce the shroud when light from their sun cannot? The Daystar, aka UTol, is a planet, not an actual star. I think you're a bit off with Silver, we don't really know what Silver does except that it can be used to drive away/hurt Shades on Threnody + Might be able to anchor someone through a Cognitive Anomaly, so we can't say with certainty that it counteracts or pierces Investiture. Instead, the light coming off of UTol is probably Invested in some form, which is why it can pierce the Shroud. It is similar to how, since Yumi was a Cognitive Shadow made of the Shroud, she could see in the Shroud perfectly clearly, as if it wasn't even there. Mistborn Spoilers, in case you haven't read those: Spoiler When Allomancers burn Tin, they can see through the Mists far better than a normal person can. This is because the Mists are Preservation's Investiture, and since Allomancy draws on Preservation's Investiture, for a moment while burning Tin, you're almost becoming part of the Mists, which lets you see through them. It's the same mechanic as how Yumi sees through the Shroud, and Tin is in fact called out in the book itself. So most likely, UTol is just radiating Investiture, which is able to pass through the Shroud, and how that Investiture got on UTol probably has to do with Virtuosity's death. 1
