Atilium she/her Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 Okay, so on my recent Steelheart re-read I got this funny feeling. All the Reckoners keep reffering to these other teams of Reckoners. But honestly, we never see any real evidence of these other teams. And how was David just lucky enough to stumble upon the team of Reckoners that had Prof, Tia and Megan/Firefight in it? I think maybe the Reckoners are actually just that one team, but they pretend there's other teams so that it won't be so depressing to other people, seeing just six people opposing hundreds of Epics. Thoughts? (sorry if this has been proposed or anything before) 3
Edgedancer he/him Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 Yeah, I wondered that myself. Honestly, if there are other Reckoners and they have any kind of connection to each other, they must wonder why this cell is so storming effective, given that they have access to Prof´s powers. However, Prof most likely wouldn´t want to tell them about his Epicness, which would put them on extremly bad terms, up to the point where they would want to replace him. Unless of course all the other cells are also lead by gifter-Epics. Although this seems double unlikely, for one that many Epic with gifter powers grouping together, seems unlikely in the first place and if they where so numerous they should have figured out the "can´t gift to other Epics"-Limitation. Overall, this leaves me to assume that if there are other Reckoners, they don´t have enough cohesion to really be called one Organisation. Instead they would just be random Epic killers all called the same term. Whether that is the case or Prof and Tia just want to console the others, only time will tell. 3
king of nowhere Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 yeah, I wondered the same myself. if there are other groups of epic, they would have heard of the tensor and healing stuff and would start thinking on why it don't work for them. on the other hand, it seems unlikely that there's only one group, so I'm going with edgedancer and his "very loose organization or even unrelated groups" theory for the moment. That's something I hope the sequels will clear.
soulcastJam he/him Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 I wonder if "gifter classification" is actually a false idea in that all epics actually have the power to gift, but most do not exercise it due to their disdain of common man.

If that where the case, a lot more Epics would be misused as power batteries, ala Conflux.
Lozen Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 I like to think there are other cells fighting back but maybe not under the Reckoner moniker. My theory is that Prof's Epic name was Reckoner and that's how they got their name. 1
