Vena
I am reading The Way of Kings and on the page 481 I noticed this quote: Obviously, the man had been banished to Hearthstone because he was so bitter and flawed. He clearly didn't deserve to be among the real lighteyes, who fought for vengence on the Shattered Plains. The problem is, this quote is from chapter 31 which is from Kaladin's point of view 6 years ago. As far as I know, the Vengence Pact wasn't established yet and Gavilar was still alive at that time. So my question is, is there an error in the book or is there something I don't understand correctly?
Quiver he/him
Don't have the book on-hand, so going off coppermind summaries. Szeth killed Gavilar, then the narrative jumped forward five years; I'd say the sixth year is the one Kaladin spent in the slave camps. Ie: six years ago today. Which...might work, if the vengeance pact was "fresh" in the flashbacks.
Vena
You are right, it might work. I thought the narrative jumped forward four years after Szeth killed Gavilar, not five, so yeah, it could work. Furthermore, after the first chapter, the narrative jumped forward 8 more months. cem he/him
http://coppermind.net/wiki/User:Cem#Kaladin.27s_timeline Here's Kaladin's early life timeline. As far as I can tell, that chapter takes place at the earlier months of 1168. Gavilar dies in 1167.
