Lord of Chaos

"Let the Lord of Chaos rule."

I am now on the 6th book of this amazing series, and I can tell already why this book is most people's favorite. Who else is at this point for the first time like me? I love this book. I think I'm going to start my first re-read after it, books 1-6 before moving on to Crown of Swords. It's been a while, because I've been reading them off-and-on for five years lol. Not because I feel like I need to take a break, but because there's lots of other things I like to read. I like variety. But I will do my re-read of the first six books consecutively.

I think his writing style really shines in this one. For his Conan books and that Civil War trilogy (only one of which I have had the pleasure to read), and the first five books, it is good, but I think it really shows off in this one. I'm only 160 pages through it, but I think he has really mastered his voice here and i'm sure that will reflect throughout the rest of the book and the volumes to follow. I am also very excited for this epic battle that apparently is the greatest thing ever written or something, which comes at the end of the book and is retold in the 7th's opening.

These books always have such awesome climax battles in them, so I can't wait for this battle.

Very nice. I will say, Book 6 is always counted among one of my favorites, and a lot of other peoples. I remember when I first got to that book I was pretty blown away. You can tell that's when Robert Jordan starts to get into full swing with the World and his writing. I re-read would be pretty nice at that point because a lot has happened at that point, and there's tons of small little hidden details and subtle hints as to what's coming up.

Of course, a lot of people will say that books 7-10 you're in for a little bit of a trek. Those books get criticized the most for the "slowness" and annoying people/events. While they do make a fair point, I really don't think it's that bad. And depending on what elements of the story you've liked so far, you can either love them or not care for them. So coming in strong off of a 6-book re-read marathon should give you plenty of momentum to plow through those books and right on through to Brandon Sanderson's amazing finish.

Just remember, you're not even halfway there yet. There is still so much amazing things happen. Keep on reading!

It's a pretty great book. On page 200 now, going a bit slow because I finally started college (yay) and I'm just loving it.

As far as what plots I've liked that are already happening, I really genuinely like all of them and the events that have/are happening. Also, I don't mind slow pacing, side-story diversions or any of the other complaints. I've already got a few ideas of what's to come. I'm highly concerned about the weather problem, which I noticed I think in book 3 or 4 and can't help but foresee that coming up at some point.

My only complaint so far is not seeing enough of Morgase, because they ended the 5th book with a really interesting plot for Morgase and I'm like a third through this book with no sight of Morgase's new plot thread, maybe that's one of the "bad books". I'd really like to see more of her at some point. The same goes with Perrin, who has been absent for almost two books now. And I think it would be really neat if Masema the Prophet's POV in somewhere. But I get it, the books are "already long enough" according to most people. I just see so much more that could be put in. Oh well.

For 10, it's perfectly reasonable to just skip the book and read a spoiler somewhere.

Um, I wouldn't say perfectly reasonable. I mean, if you absolutely feel it's necessary to skip it, then yeah, sure. You could technically do that no problem I suppose. But after reading NINE out of the 14 books in the series already, why would you skip Book 10? You don't get the prose of Robert Jordan's writing, you don't get the crucial detailing and subtle hints and world/plot building. You're basically saying "I just want to get to the end."

Which is a main goal when reading a series, definitely. But after 9 books, why skip it or rush it? Why not go ahead and get everything that that World has to offer.

Honestly, I do not recommend skipping any books in any fantasy series. You're just going to miss one whole piece of the picture. But like I said, for some people that works perfectly fine for them, and if they're happy with it, then all the power to them. But for me, personally, I do not like that solution.

*shrugs* /endrant.

7 is also a strong book, but it's a step down from 6, and then you will hit the winter of the series (8, 9 and 10).

That's ridiculous. There's no such thing as a good reason to skip any part of a series.
