theofficetroll
Knowing Brandon's love of Magic, I would be surprised if this hadn't come up, but as "magic" is pretty common on the fora here I wasn't able to find anything about it. If the Shards were Magic cards what colors would they be? My first thoughts: Preservation : Blue or White - I don't think the philosophy is truly White, but the follow through isn't exactly Blue Ruin : Red or Red/ Black Harmony : White intentions with Blue follow through? Dominion : White or White/ Black Devotion: White Endowment : Blue - pure control Cultivation : Green Odium : Black Honor : White Bavadin's Shard : It's pretty Blue in execution Anyone else want to throw out their opinions and give better options than I did? Haradion Drogon
I would say Ruin was Black, and Odium was Red/Black. Preservation would be White. Honour, I get White/Green for some reason, and Cultivation, Blue/Green. Bavadin's, I would say Green.
Peng the Just
I think: Preservation would be green, maybe green white. Green is most concerned with tradition and maintaining the status quo. Ruin is red. Red likes smashing things Honor is white Odium is black red Cultivation is green blue Endowment is also probably white Dominion is black Devotion is white? Maybe. I'm not as sure on this one Edited June 9, 2014 by jasonpenguin
Green Hoodie Mistborn
Well, we know there is some truth to this even in the Cosmere, but outside of MtG! Preservations shardpool is a glowing white in Well of Ascension. Devotion's pool is "crystalline blue..." or "deep sapphire". Ruin's "pool" is black colored I believe based on his mist hovering about the well of ascension and Atium being a "dark beadlike metal". I wouldn't be surprised if Odium's pool is the "tiny violet ocean" that "glowed a deep violet" on its own which Kaladin encounters in the Chasms. Why it's there, I don't know, but since greatshells have violet blood and are likely part of the voidbringer army... Cultivation's probably the "emerald pools" mentioned in Rock's story and plays into the shardpool world hopping theory. Honor is probably some golden or orange color. orange because it is a prominent color in the SA books. Golden possibly because of the sunlight Dalinar experiences in the dream/vision at the end of WoR Bavadin/Skai I'm not sure on yet... but this too ties into the discussions on Rhthyms, pulses, & wavelengths. It only makes sense for Adonalsium to be composed of the entire "spectrum" that is, and when shattered that each shard would be a color. ROY G BIV + White & Black give us 9 shardic colors, of which I think we've directly seen or had described 5. I'm not sure where the other "7" colors would come from, possibly not visible light?
-Deleted-
I think Odium would be red. He seems more like a burner than a grave-raiser, really. I think he would be more apt to raze a city rather than to raise it.
theofficetroll
The philosophy of black is selfishness, using whatever power is available. Using corpses is unsavory and something that the other colors are less likely to do. Maro wrote some interesting articles about the colors and their philosophies in an interview format.
