So when a Singer bonds with a Voidspren and becomes a Regal, they gain some kind of cool power but at the cost of essentially becoming a slave to Odium.

Could Aluminum provide a hack for this? Let's say a Singer became a Stormform and immediately put on an aluminum-foil hat, would that allow them to keep control or at least reduce Odium's influence over them while keeping their new Forms awesome powers?

Here's a WOB that might support my theory:

The Lord Ruler used a lot of metal for shielding and stuff. But if he had had an aluminum helmet himself, would it have protected him from Ruin's influence at all, or would the spikes overcome that?

Brandon Sanderson

Aluminum helmet would help in that situation. Aluminum could very well have been something useful for resisting, yeah.

Edit:

Here's another I found that seems relevant

And does [Odium] control the Voidbringers through the spren in the same way that the Inquisitors were controlled by Ruin?

Brandon Sanderson

There are definitely-- In fact what you have just seen with Eshonai shares an awful lot with what happened in Mistborn.

Based on the WOB it seems like it would work but mainly I love the idea of them flying around with the tin foil hats on like the conspiracy theory ones. that would be amazing.

Yeah, especially since on Scadrial after aluminum becomes dirt cheap, everyone will be wearing one. It's great.

But yeh it seems that I've pretty much answered my own question. A Regal could probably maintain at least some control over themselves if they wore aluminum, keeping their awesome powers without becoming slaves.
