Removing Koloss Spikes

If you were to remove a kolos's Hemalurgic spikes after it had been transformed into a koloss, and the physical wounds weren't dangerous enough to kill them, what would happen to them?

Would they die from their Spiritweb collapsing, remain a koloss but without the Blessing of Potency, or would they turn back into a human?

I think they would just die. The holes from the spikes would probably be enough, but if not that then the spirit web from collapsing. Like how the inquisitors die if you remove one key spike, the Koloss are more physically altered then the inquisitors which only have their brains and hearts changed.
