HiccupGreyjoy
So, I´ve finished "Hero" today. Much more fast-paced than "Well" with fine amount of momentum and novelty, though not on "Empire" level. I had some usual problems with Brandon´s writing, but mind you, I´m frequent literature and movie critic, so I might be a little deformed. however, I can´t stop thinking that epilogue was one big mistake. For the start, we had to be assured that Vin and Elend are now in Fluffy puffy afterlife with Kelsier which reminded me some extremes of later Narnia books. But what especially glows is Sazed - sorry, but omnipotence is lame plot device no matter how much you like to write about religion(s).Scadrial was now fully "terrisformed" so it kinda lost it´s special status among fantasy worlds and while Brandon might somewhere expleined his current cosmology/theology I´m afraid that many future readers might be outraged if the Sazed will be somehow prominent in the next books and other group might be outraged thet he won´t prominent, given his status as Lord Almighty. Don´t take me as angry fanboy, becouse it actually pains me to badmouth Mistborn in any way - I´m still looking forward to "Alloy" and beyond and I´ll definitely read "Way of kings" in the near future. discipleofhoid
I think that the biggest thing to remember here is that Sazed is not by any means omnipotent. Nor is he the Almighty (that's a character from WOK - He is only a god not God if that makes any sense. He holds massive amounts of power, more than any one else on Scadrial, but still has limits. I would not expect Sazed to be any more or less prominent then preservation and ruin were in HoA for some books and in other books he might only be as prominent as they were in The Final Empire. I don't think it really matters as we are guaranteed a good story either way.
HiccupGreyjoy
I still think Kelsier is cooler, if weaker god. I hope I´ll not have to attend two churches :-) .
PeterAhlstrom
I think Brandon walked a fine line with the epilogue. It was a big risk, but I think the fan response has by and large shown he took the right tack. Edited November 3, 2011 by PeterAhlstrom
happyman
Without saying too much more, I will note that even post-ascension Sazed also has limits, even though they haven't been explored in great detail yet. There are apparently dangers and situations out there that even he cannot handle, and there are also apparently limits on how much he can micromanage the world. He managed to solve a lot of problems all in one go at the end of HoA, but given that most of the problems were caused by misuse of the same power used to solve them, it doesn't strike me as being out of line. In short, he hasn't become omnipotent, and he didn't solve all the problems, just the world-shattering ones. When he is reintroduced (if he is reintroduced) he will doubtless have limits unable to solve the problems at hand. The fact that he resolved most of the major problems from HoA is why the book ended and we don't get to read the detailed (and relatively dull) story of how humans resettles their now livable world! Also, the world doesn't completely revert to being just like ours. From the annotations, we know that the mists still appear, for instance. It's just become more like Warbreaker: distinct but stable. prehistoricman
Looking at the chapters of AoL that have been posted, it's pretty safe to say that Sazed will be fairly removed.
Chaos
I can understand why you didn't like the puffy ending. Though, as much as it pains me to see the Final Empire go, I would have been very upset if the world hadn't been healed. That was a promise that was made to me very early, and I wanted to see it fulfilled. That said, having read Alloy, you don't need to worry. It still feels like Scadrial, even without ash and skaa. As for Sazed, well, I think you will really like it.
