The lighter tone of this book was something I really enjoyed. All the snippets of humor really just made it an enjoyable ride.

This may be my immaturity showing through, but I thought Wax's deliberately inappropriate jokes at the wedding dinner were awesome.

I completely agree.

"Shooting dogs is hardly appropriate dinner conversation," Steris said.

"I know. Particularly since I was aiming for its balls."

Marasi just about spat her soup across the table

"Lord Ladrian, I once heard that you threw a man's own knife at him and hit him right through th eye. Is the story true?"

"It was actually Wayne's knife," Waxillium hesitated. "And the eye was an accident. I was aiming for the balls that time too."

I happened to be reading this in class, so I got a lot of funny looks when I practically died laughing.(and, yes, I actually fell off my seat... can you say "embarrassing?") Luckily, my classmates are as weird as I am, so no damage was done.

Has nobody mentioned Wayne yet? Really?

this, Wayne is utterly hilarious..."I bought a ward against logic from a traveling fortune-teller, it lets me add two 'n two and get a pickle.".

Wayne is awesome, too, yeah. Although, now that you mention it, is that the only time in the book he talks about actually buying things, rather than trading them?

He talks about bendalloy being expensive, but other than that, maybe.

I was amused at several moments, but I didn't really laugh out loud until they got to High Imperial. I about died laughing there.

In general, I'm just very fond of Wax and Wayne's interplay of banter and insults. Reminds me a lot of my best friend and I. We get quite creative.

Although I liked the reference to high imperial, I hated that slang even in the original trilogy. Even on the re-reads I entirely skip every part that has spook talking like that.

AND the book was very funny! Wayne was comic relief done right, he's allowed to be a little goofy since he's such a badass the rest of the time.

“Huh,” Wayne said thoughtfully. “Tea’s poisoned.”

Love it
