Kandra, if they died and became cognitive shadows, would have some advantage over others due to their trained ability to manipulate their cognitive aspect. Another group of shapeshifters, the Siah aimians, are somehow connected to the cognitive realm, hinted at by their backwards pointing shadows. Could it be that shapeshifters in the Cosmere all work by the principle of manipulating their cognitive aspect in order to changer their physical aspect?
If someone could somehow be changed so that they existed partially in the cognitive realm, perhaps via Hemalurgy, could they become a shapeshifter with some training? Could the reason Lift was changed so that she is partially in the cognitive realm because she wanted to stay the same, so the Nightwatcher tried to grant her the ability to manipulate her physical aspect via her cognitive aspect?
Returned are able to make minor alterations to their physical aspect by changing how they view themselves. Would cognitive shadows have a natural advantage over the normal people in shapeshifting abilities because they are more intrinsically tied to the cognitive realm?
Worldhoppers are able to live a very long time via some kind of method. Could it be that by existing in the cognitive realm, that they are able to slow their aging by manipulating their cognitive aspect?
Feruchemists are able to somehow heal themselves via Identity while in the cognitive realm, albeit in a roundabout way. Could this be because by manipulating their Identity they would be manipulating their cognitive aspect as a side effect?
