Era 1 Magic
This is probably the magic system I have the least compiled with, but it is very important to the rest of the books as it never really goes away - it just changes. There are certain things that remain constant, as seen in Era 3, when the Slumber preserves the Eternal King.
So.
There are two fountains of magic - the Deep, and the Flame.
Lemme explain.
Deep:
The Deep is a non-sapient being that represents any ending. Not destruction, ending. Sleep. It is closely associated with cold, the ocean, and the night.
Its magic is raw, and in its purest form it takes things out of the reach of the Flame, freezing them in their state for eternity - this known as immortality and named “Slumber.”
In diluted forms, it isn’t permanent, the main example being the Eternal King. If y’all cudnt tell, he’s important.
The Flame:
Sapient being, is not aware that the Deep exists. Has two eyes, an eye of Ember, and an eye of Ash. Unlimited creation and destruction.
Blesses knights with Embers - giving them powers of his choosing.
Blesses executioners and similar with Ashes, giving them the ability to Rend - this isn’t seen much yet, more end of era 2 and then all of era 3 - I’ll explain those then.
Interactions:
The Deep infected, just slightly, the Ashes - causing the mind of the Flame to slow significantly, and causing the Flane to (eventually) Slumber, which led to Era 2 when the Twins - two Emberblessed, to go on an expedition to try to heal the flame - they didn’t. This’ll go in Worldbuilding.
