It could be that Taln isn't actually his real name and is just his "herald name" so WoB is trolling us hard. Who knows at this point. Is it possible that the heralds don't actually survive each desolation and instead merely their memories/consciousness gets implanted into worthy individuals when they return? That could fall in line with the whole Taln but not Taln

I think patterns statement is more along the lines of all bonded spren at that time died. One has to remember the different spren have different requirements for bonds which leads to some being a lot stricter in their bonded. Nohadon specifically mentions how picky Honorspren are where as from what we have seen from Pattern, Cryptics are scholars whose purpose is further research(Also the lightweaver epigraph about the man who couldn't progress). It's entirely possible that there were Honorspren that weren't bonded at the time that had bonded before that hadn't found a suitable person to bond with yet. I can imagine it being hard for an Honorspren to bond when there is so much turmoil within the Radiants.

I agree they shouldn't age. The mortality rate of desolations is so high that I doubt anyone ever lived long enough to go insane or have issues. This could also be part of why they gave up their oaths, to my knowledge this latest period was the first time ever a large gap has occurred between desolations. Previously they were constantly rebuilding/fighting but a huge period of idle time for individuals that don't age sounds like a bad idea.

I was actually wondering, if Stormlight can even bring Lopen's arm back and the healing is based a lot around perception is it possible that you can stop aging via always burning a small amount of stormlight? As long as you always see yourself in a certain light the stormlight should always bring you back to that I think. Could explain why Nohadon is possibly still alive if he was a Surgebinder. I'd imagine the mortality rate in the KR is rather high so not aging wouldn't have been a problem.

Can Lift create an infinite source of Stormlight for herself?
Numb replied to Levian's topic in Stormlight Archive
I actually wonder if it's possible for Lift to hold excess stormlight. We don't know if she can obtain stormlight the normal way yet and it's possible that her boon is she can't so would that mean that she only uses exactly the amount of stormlight she needs for her surging? -

We don't really know without knowing the ratio between stormlight/food/growth surge. It seems unlikely though -
The bridgemen seemed to only start glowing after Kal said his third oath(I don't have the book on me right now to confirm). The epigraph about Windrunners mentions their like for command structures and squires. If the bridgemen had attracted spren then they would know about the spren but none of them mention any spren or even of speaking the oaths. Instead all we know is that they started glowing in battle. The only one that actually had a POV and/or different experience is Lopen. This could either mean he's attracted a new spren or it's just Brandon's way of showing us the squire transformation in action. While it's not stated exactly what a squrie is, this theory does seem highly plausible. edit: Dam just refer to Moogle above lol

Jasnah mentions in the epilogue that the highspren have records and some of them may not be useful as things have changed this time so I'm starting to feel this may hold some weight.

I think Windrunners passive ability may be in their ability to form squads/Squires. We haven't read about any other order having these pseudo-radiants.

I think you are on the right track but maybe Nohadon's involvement is slightly different. We know he wrote WotK which contains the ideals and oaths of the Radiant. Before the Radiants the Surgebinders seemed to be out of control(Judging by Dalinar's vision). Let's just look at the Honorspren for a moment. If Spren can be viewed as ideas given form then the question is how does an Honorspren know what is right? Is it based on what the person bonded to them perceives as right or wrong? I think this may have been a fundamental problem with Surgebinders before the Radiants and what Nohadon's involvement with the forming of the Radiants is. Ishar wanted a way to preserve knowledge where as Nohadon wanted a way for Surgebinders to become more than what they were. It seems like together their collective ideas formed the Radiants. Now there was a way to preserve knowledge and the spren had a method(The oaths) to make sure their gifts were not abused. It also makes sense that once the Radiants were in place they would naturally gravitate towards certain roles.

I don't see how Dalinar being bad a reading people is the same as Dalinar being blind? Seems like you just saying Dalinar is a bad judge of character(He instantly trusted Kal though) but then you apply that reasoning to him not being able to tell two people apart. The two aren't even related. Dalinar's main problem is that he believes that others have the same goals as him. As for Shallan, well she hides from even herself. Kind of hard to get a read on someone when they lie to everyone including themselves.
-
Shen is also in a position to become a radiant but I think it's more likely he'll be a squire. Eshonai becoming a willshaper or even bondsmith would be cool. I can see her eventually becoming the "Dalinar" Listener but Willshaper prob most likely.

Did Hierocracy heavily edit Truthwatchers?
Numb replied to kari-no-sugata's topic in Stormlight Archive
I don't think Renarin can actually see the future. Maybe instead he has a similiar ability to how Hoid gets around. He knows something is going to happen but can't actually see what it is going to be. Otherwise he wouldn't have been so afraid since he would have seen they would live? -
That actually makes a lot of sense. We still don't know WHY Hoid was there when "Taln" came to the gates. Seems to be a rather irrelevant place for Hoid to be if Taln is merely the madman. Hoid must have had some purpose for being there and since we know that Hoid didn't switch the blades what exactly was his purpose?

Could a person perhaps separate their physical entity with their cognitive one?

It's possible, just don't see why he would mention that with respect to Kaladin's injuries via shardblade.

[Theory]Iyatil, Mraize and the 2nd Shardpool
Numb replied to shinintendo's topic in Stormlight Archive
I assumed that that part was mainly talking about her being small chested rather an revealing cloths. Shallan's main dress hugs the body pretty well too. She first thought that Iyatil was a man because of the safe and and being rather masculine(Or just not curvy) -
This is the question I was thinking of: . It doesn't really say if Szeth is just incorrect about not being able to heal a shardblade since we know Hoid is able to heal from this: So does this mean that Stormlight is able to heal the soul or that Szeth doesn't actually cut the soul when he used that Honorblade? Honestly I'm confused.

[Theory]Iyatil, Mraize and the 2nd Shardpool
Numb replied to shinintendo's topic in Stormlight Archive
Mraize is definitely hinted at being a worldhopper with the collection of odd artifacts and his fascination with "local" weapons. I don't see how him being a world hopper excludes Iyatil though. She definitely seem like more of the mentor/leader than Mraize and I don't see how she would think of him as a student if he "hired" her as a guide. -
I'm sure I remember reading a WoB where he said that what Szeth was doing with the blade is different to what a shadeblade does in terms of Kaladin healing wounds from Szeth. This may have implications on what happened with Talns blade but I can't really figure out why kaladin is able to heal his wounds when supposedly he shouldn't be able to do so from a Shadeblade cut. I'll have to find the WoB after dinner.

Shallan's memory could be more than just something physical as in a part of her is able to retain information in the cognitive realm. Why I suggest this is that maybe while her body is unconscious she is still able to remember her surroundings through these drawings. So far we haven't really seen anything to suggest that she has some kind of foresight as most of these events seem to always be depictions of prior memories she chooses not to remember. I'm also not sure if Renarin truly has precognition or if he does what kind of precognition it is. Precognition is always such a tricky thing to do. One of the major problems I have is that Renarin actively altered the future. If he didn't draw the countdown would it still have happened the way it did? If his foresight included him doing that countdown then why didn't it include them surviving? At the end he seems to truly believe that he has seen there deaths which suggests that he didn't see the future in which he did a countdown but even then did his countdown alter the future enough to invalidate what he saw? Something just feels off about it being precognition. I don't know if any of you guys are anime watchers but the anime Kara no Kyoukai - Mirai Fukuin actually deals with an interesting type of foresight in that it is more the ability to gather vast amounts of information and predict potential outcomes based on that(Rather bad explanation). This theory fits in pretty well with the mathematical number crunching Renarin and why he believed they were going to die.

I admit I know a lot more about homosexual men than women unfortunately and didn't mean to offend with any stereotypes(Didn't realize there were any). With many of the current theories around Jasnah revolving around some form of abusive childhood I merely thought it would be interesting to try look at it from another angle. I apologize if I offended anyone, it was not my intent. What I find interesting is that Jasnah seems to have been bonded with a Spren the longest out of any character and knows the most about Spren society/Shadesmar. I find it hard to believe that she wouldn't have found out anything about honor throughout her studies. The Stormfather knows that Honor is the Almighty and the Highspren at least have documentation about the prior desoluations(Based on the Epilogue) so it's confusing to me that Jasnah doesn't know about honor or at least doesn't believe in honor being a "god". Honor/Cultivation did create her species did they not? Obviously I could be assuming Jasnah is far more aware of the cosmere than she is. On an unrelated note Pattern did say that Shadesmar seems more dangerous than he thinks it should be or was. I wonder if this hampered her study into the Voidbringers since with a 6 year bond I can only imagine how much more knowledgeable Ivory is compared to Syl. Although now that I think about it maybe she was convinced they existed because she knew from the Spren but couldn't convince people without evidence in the physical realm.
-
Oh yes that's true she had pattern before she killed her mother so we don't actually know what caused her to become suitable for a bond. My apologies.

Some really good arguments against this. Interesting in the religion aspect the most but a bit tied down now to answer. One thing is I hope there was no sexual abuse in her past. I just don't really see how Navani or her father would allow such a thing to happen but we also don't know why she assassinated one of the Ghostbloods. We already have Shallan who had an incredibly abusive father figure so having the only way a woman can be radiant as abuse when they were younger just seems too stale.

Cultivation is morally neutral and is working with Odium
Numb replied to Trevalion's topic in Stormlight Archive
I don't see why Voidbringing would be Odium+Cultivation. From what we have gathered of the listeners it seems like Spren forms were around before humans since the Listerners believe the spren "bretrayed them" by instead bonding with the humans. It could be that spren were around before Honor/Cultivation/Odium but when they came new forms of spren came too? Just seems the timeline is off.
