Hey, my first post on the forums!
Alright, so I've been staring at this dumb string of numbers for a couple hours now and I've noticed a couple things. And counted a couple things. I don't know how to run any fancy scripts, so there are probably some mistakes in my counting here, but moving on.
The first thing I thought to try was write down every pair of numbers that appears in the code (there are something like 40 unique pairs of numbers) and then count how often those numbers appeared. The results are as follows:
19x 11* 15x 12 12x 10 09x 01, 51 08x 15, 111 (Yeah, it ain't two numbers, whatever, it's suspicious.) 07x 21, 41 06x 34 05x 14, 25, 71, 91 03x 49, 11* 02x 17, 27, 54, 55, 61 01x 02, 06, 07, 09, 13, 16, 18, 22, 24, 29, 42, 43, 44, 48, 53, 57, 75, 82, 83, 93 11 has those asterisks because, on its own and not overlapping the very suspect string of 111, it only appears 3 times. What's also interesting is that, aside from 11, the number that shows up the most is 12, and the second is 10. (Although, excluding overlapping with 111, 10 appears eleven times and 12 appears ten times.) Then I went and highlighted all the number pairs that appeared more than once, simply to see what would happen. (It was worth a shot.) What I found was that six numbers were left: 8, 1, 7, and 483.
At this point I'd been staring at these numbers for such an absurdly long time, procrastinating homework, that I noticed something else. There are couple longer strings of numbers that appear more than once.
10101:
1271:
1112341:
And lastly, 101112, which appears four times:
That's pretty odd. It could be a coincidence, but I'm not so sure with 101112.
Then I looked for number palindromes! 'Cause, y'know, symmetry's important here and all that. I found 16 sets:
111 101 121 141 151 161 171 212 414 434 525 575 10101 11711 5115 15251
That's all I've found so far! What does it mean? I don't know. It'd help if we knew where to separate out the numbers for words, or even just letters. As it is, I don't know where to start with transposing, or flipping the alphabet around or folding it in half, or just trying to guess what letters seem likely and brute forcing the rest. I just keep staring at it, and I know there's a pattern here, somewhere. But it's a mystery, and I gotta hand it to Brandon, it's a pretty good one.
(I haven't even read this far in the book, what am I doing?)
