  1. Amaram struck me as a self-righteous man with delusions of grandeur who envisions himself as the hero and everybody else as an obstacle in his way to save the world from the apocolypse.

Just as Kaladin blames himself for every splinter or sprained ankle, Amaram accepts no blame for his actions. As far as he's concern, all of his actions are just, even when they are clearly not, and likes to pretend that all the people he's harmed and killed in his quest for power are merely sacrifices for the greater good. In his eyes, he must think Dalinar and Kaladin both as stubborn and inflexible fools to have denounced him when they did.

In many ways, Amaram is the perfect foil to Kaladin. Oh, he may fancy himself as noble and kind and brave, but he's simply too weak of character to be the man he wants to be. Instead, he let outside forces dictate his actions and lead him down a terrible path. He is every bit as ruthless and as disillusional as the highlords he pretends to be superior to. Whatever grand destiny is looming over his future, I hope it ends with a brutal and drawn-out execution.

Just kill this bastard before he somehow make things even worse.

  2. Ever since I've read about the time-skip after book five, I've pictured a scenario where Adolin and Shallan really do marry, but after the time-skip, they both realized they are completely incompatible and they are now stuck in a loveless union, like what happened to between Gavilar and Navani. Shallan doesn't seem to have much affection for Adolin that doesn't involves either his family or his face.

  3. In the first book, Kaladin's opponents were almost all scrubs. In the second, he's fighting with people who were basically the best of the best of the best. With hacks.

Kaladin is definitely one of the best warriors in the story, but physical prowess and skills alone can only carry you so far. Neither hold much weight against an opponent who is either decked out hard with plates and shards, or happened to be a super awesome assassin/windrunner with a perfect kill count and at least a decade more experience with surgebinding than you do, or an immortal world-hopper who can whip your butt six ways to sunday with just his pinkie... toe.

Really, I think it's a bit unfair now. By my estimations, Kaladin is already elite tier on his own. He'll be just plain overpowered as a windrunner. I don't doubt that in next book, he'll be able to mow down whole armies of scrubs with his spear like a character right out of one of those Dynasty Warrior games. Wait, that already happened at the end of the first book... Darn it, Kaladin need a nerf! And so does that Szeth fellow! He's like Ezio on crack!

  4. This is my guess.

Kal reaches Hearthstone just after the Everstorm, delayed by his mission in the capital. Everybody's in panic as the voidbringers have already began to tear the town apart. Roshone is locked inside his property. He fears so much for his own security  that he has abandoned the people of the town, keeping his armed guards for himself.

Laral has been defying his husband at the beginning of the bloodshed. She is the one who tries to organise the civilian défenses. She has gathered the majority of the people and she has given them weapons, but their efforts to resist the Voidbringers are hopeless as they are not real fighters. When Kal arrives, he tries to find his parents in the group that she has united, but they are missing. Mad with worry, he wants to go and look for them first, but Laral begs him to stay and help, and he realizes that he has to protect the people of Hearthstone against the voidbringers first or they will die.

He defeats the Voidbringers who attack the villagers.

Meanwhile Roshone is killed Inside his guarded property.

When the people of Hearthstone are secure,  Kaladin goes back home within a heartbeat, prepared for the worst. But when he enters inside his house, he finds his father fighting hopelessly against a surviving Voidbringer. Lirin is badly wounded. Mad with grief, Kal kills the Voidbringer with his shardblade before he kills his father. Then he reaches him and tries to patch his wounds, but there's nothing he can do. He takes Lirin in his arms as he is dying. The father has tears of joy in his eyes when he realises that the radiant who just "saved" him is his son, he thought that Kal was dead. Kal is totally upset. He asks why his father had to stay here unprotected...and discovers that Lirin has stayed  to protect a young patient under his care that could not be moved. He cries and tells his father he has always been his hero and he's so sorry for not having been able to save Tien and for arriving to late to save him too. Lirin has enough time left to tell Kal that Tien's death was not his fault. He tells him how proud of him he is, and asks him to protect is mom...and his little sister.

Kal discovers that  Hesina is safe, hidden in the room with the child. She is devastated because Lirin is dead but overwhelmed with joy because she is reunited with her son. Kal falls in love at first sight with his sister who is so much like Tien...

What? Kaladin? His own sister? Even if she was born immediately after Kal and Tien left for the military, wouldn't she be like...six? What the hel... Wait.

    *sniff* *sniff*

Hold on a minute, I smell something in the air. I... I th-think it's pie. Yes, it's definitely pie... And bread too, fresh from the oven. Hot potatoes, small onions... And, lemon cakes. Lemons cakes?

...LEMON CAKES!? OH CRAP! GRRM HAS HIJACKED THIS THREAD! ABANDON THREAD! RUN! TERMINATE! DESTROY!

  5. You get a bottle of wine and can no longer see colors. We ain´t playing games here son.

I wish for a my pet to learn how to talk with humans.

Granted, your pet will talk. And talk. And talk.

I wish Stacy's mom knew that she's all I want and have waited for so long. If possible, Stacy will also see that she's just not the girl for me.

  6. It's hard to say, though. I'm biased against Amaram, since I thought he'd be an interesting morally grey villain... turns out nope, he's literally trying to bring an apocalypse to Roshar because he's a religious fanatic. I felt really betrayed by WoR when we got some PoVs from Amaram, given that I had previously tried to (sort of) defend him and say "hey, maybe he has really good reasons for what he's doing". He's been relegated to the pile of boring villains I just want to never be mentioned again, the only other member of the pile being Sadeas. (Fortunately, Sadeas got knocked off without much ceremony. I wish it had happened earlier.)

I've been saying it from the very beginning. He should be exposed for his crimes, humiliated, and executed for the filthy traitor he is, then his body thrown out into the streets to feed starving dogs. Might even have to shoot the dogs too, just in case.

Didn't get that in WoR, so I'm really looking forward to next year..

  7. Granted, but you must have your cake and eat it too.

I want to be a male Aes'edai from the age of legends. (Not sure 'bout that spelling.....)

Granted, you are now living through the Breaking of the World. Good luck with that.

I wish that I have a magical refrigerator that keeps everything that I put into it in fresh and perfect condition. No more spoiled meat, or corpses, or milk.

  8. Fair enough... but you can only understand the written word from now on. You can no longer understand voices.

    I wish for a curse.

Granted, every single piece of technology that requires even the tiniest bit of power will now blow up in your presence.

I really wish I didn't trip over my feet last night trying to take off my pants with my shoes still on.

  9. If Kaladin ever tried to make a move on Shallan behind Adolin's back, I'll be really disappointed in him. A Knight follows the Ideals, but a man sticks to the Codes! A man who would steal a buddy's girl is the worst kind of scum.

That said, I'll be fine with Shaladin if it happened naturally while Adolin and Shallan are kinda already split up. Also, hijinks between them are an absolute must. This Veildan idea fits into those categories. In fact, I am kinda toying with the idea of Kaladin remaining ignorant of Veil's identity. Then... heh. Cue, the Chicken Dance!

But if Stormlight was a darker series, I would say the situation between the three will develop into a sort of Arthurian romance. It's not though, so Veildan seems a bit more likely.

  10. Mysty and Colby Jack: I had most of the parts that you can't see, which form the structural support, as well as about half of the minifigures.  I had to buy all of the dark tan peices, the parshendi, and the shardbearers.  I probably paid about $500 total; the Parshendi were the worst, since those pieces are quite rare.  But now I can re-use them for scenes from the rest of the series.

Five hundred dollars is a lot. Do you know how much books you can get with that much? You can fill half a bookshelf if you stick to softcovers.

  11. Colby, only if you think in logical, and not devious ways. I think it's a great idea - I want to read all about the carnage that ensues. :)

It's also a bad idea because Taravangian is the only one who will listen to Dalinar and can be considered his only supporter among the foreign monarch. Also, I don't think Dalinar is nearly as bloodthirsty as you two think he is.

If you're in the mood for carnage, I recommend Warhammer 40k.

  12. who is everyone?

    Shallan herself probably wont inherit a thing, as it does seem like in the veden states there only exists agnatic (male) inheritance, as Jasnah herself is not listet as a successor to the Alethi throne, Elhokar ->his infant son -> Dalinar -> Adolin;

I dont thin it will be any different in Jah Keved, as the gouvernment form is very similar to Alethkar: You have highprinces, a king, vassals, ardents and the like.

As for the Plot Dalinar wants to reunite the Silver Kingdoms; for that the acquisition of Jah Keved is of utmost importance because they hold as many shards as Alethkar and about 1/3 of all known shards in Roshar.

Dalinar will probably (have to?) use the same method as Nohadon, and that is war. This war will need a pretext, where the claim comes in handy. I see a clash between Taravangian and Dalinar as inevitable unless one of them dies. Both see themselves as pretty much the only ones capable of saving mankind on Roshar. And dont forget that our beloved Dalinar, as a Tyrant, will crasp after every bit of power he can get his hands on.

A war of conquest in the middle of an apocalypse is a terrible idea.

  13. I love his weary curse when he realises this. Him coming to terms with it so quickly is hilarious.

"Oh darn! I'm now the 1%... Hey, are there jet skis in Roshar? Or maybe a dune buggy?"

  14. Okay, mines is when Kaladin found Hobber alive among the dead. Hobber's all choked up about his failure and cowardice, and all worried about his place now in the army that he's crippled, but Kaladin immediately assures him that he's still one of them and that everything will be alright. Then, even though Kaladin is dead tired, he force himself to be strong and carry Hobber back home. It's just a very nice moment for me. It isn't very hard to see why his men would willingly die for him.

  15. Normally, I read in complete silence, but when I do turn on my playlist... Okay, these songs stands out for me. Sure, they all have lyrics, but you just can't beat the classics.

    Burnings Hearts - Survivor
Wheel in the Sky - Journey
    Back in Black - AC/DC
You Give Love a Bad Name - Bon Jovi

This is a condensed list. Fat Bottomed Girls should have a place here too, but I don't anyone here would appreciate me associating that song to ...er, a certain lady character in the book. And ironically, yes, it's from Queen.
