So I went to see if the newest episode was out yet, and...server not found? I double-checked it with isup.me, and it confirms the site to be down. Anybody know what's up? ...and now it's working again. Yay, I can get my Writing Excuses fix!

Like it's spelled, but I would say maybe 1 in 5 online gamers get it right the first time. Long 'O', short 'I', long 'O', silent 'E' Syllables break up as 'O-di-To-gr'.

I don't actually watch TV, at least not directly, but I do sometimes watch TV shows on Netflix. Recently watched the first 8 or so episodes of Warehouse 13, which is okay. It's sort of like 'Fringe', except where that show is CSI-like, W13 is closer to X-Files in terms of formula. Also, it's got a reasonable amount of not-taking-itself-seriously humor to it. It's a SyFy network program, so for many / most of you, that's probably "'nuff said" right there.

- I've been replaying some old games. Started a new character on Mass Effect and played them through mainly Paragon (ended with max Paragon, but had a fair amount of Renegade in there, too), and now bringing them through ME2. I want to deal with the endgame differently than I did on another Paragon playthrough, and also just wanted to play the games again. - Dug the PS2 out of storage and started a new game of Kingdom Hearts 2 mainly because I was playing the flash game Upgrade Complete and it made me think of the Gummy Ship mini-game, hehe. - And last but not least, Eve, of course. My main character is now approaching 6 years old and 100M SP in a week or so. \o/ Been having renewed interest because the corp I'm in (which is an RP corp) has made friends with some folks in lowsec, meaning more types of play are now open to me conveniently, and also the just-announced Tier 3 Battlecruisers and balancing tweaks in the upcoming winter patch are very exciting. Also building up a new character since Eve has relatively harsh penalties for death, and it's now a real bother to have either of my other characters get killed in trivial conflicts, so I wanted a character that I could do fun suicidal type stuff with and not worry about it if they have a fiery, glorious hilarious death. They are approaching the point where they can be seriously fun, so I'm looking forward to that.

I picked 'Other', for reading time relative to page count. This makes allowances for books that have lots of pages but still feel like a 'fast read', or the opposite case. For series length, assuming more or less equivalent book lengths, I think once you get past the trilogy you can't be called 'short'. Individually, Dresden Files books are short, but the series as a whole certainly isn't, IMHO.

FWIW, I really disliked A Wrinkle In Time when I read it as a kid, but as I said above, I loved A Wind In The Door, which is a sequel to 'Wrinkle', except it's kind of like a Discworld sequel - it's helpful if you've read the earlier book, but far from necessary. I re-read it about 4 years ago just to see if it stood up when reading it as an adult, and it basically does. It's harder to suspend disbelief about how some of the elements are hand-waved away or based on a layman's understanding of science in a way that only really would work for children, but on the whole it's still a wonderful book, and you can probably eat it up in an afternoon, if you're interested in giving it a shot.

Hey, may as well introduce myself. I'm here by a kind of roundabout path - I saw Brandon Sanderson posting on Reddit a year-ish ago and was curious about all the attention he was getting and because I recognized the references to Wheel of Time, so I googled a bit, and ended up at the Writing Excuses podcast, which lo and behold, had as a co-host Howard Tayler. I've been a Schlock fan since I can't remember when (though I'm pretty certain I was in high school when I started reading, so 2002 at the latest), so I went ahead and gave it a listen even though I'm not a writer. I loved it! And Brandon seemed like a fairly swell guy, so I went ahead and gave Mistborn a try, and really liked it. At some point I registered on TWG, and now I'm here, I guess. Seems like you have a fairly active forum here, so I look forward to using it. I'm a college student ("non-traditional" sophomore - I'm 27) studying Secondary Ed / Math, and I live in Wyoming. Boy, I don't really know. Most likely The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, but possibly A Wind In The Door. I know I read both of them around 5th or 6th grade, but I'm not sure which came first. And then I have to wonder...does AWitD count? I mean, if it does, then that's a slippery slope that leads to The Mouse and the Motorcycle and Hank the Cowdog and Wayside School I guess. So. 'Regular' / 'Classic' medieval-type wizards and knights type fantasy, probably Narnia, but I think AWitD did more to open up my imagination than any other book I've ever read, and so is probably more to blame for my love of fantasy than anything, say, Lewis or Tolkein did.

I felt the same way at first, but I think it was just a matter of her settling in and everybody sort of recalibrating, and I have to admit, also likely a matter of me getting used to her voice. At first, she stuck out like a sore thumb, but in more recent episodes the conversation seems to flow much more smoothly and her input is good. Bonus benefit: Maybe it's just me, but it seems like there's less rambling and more banter, which I'm entirely in favor of.
