  1. That would also make conflict tricky to do well.  No, you would have to give both really serious motivations and misunderstandings to get it to really work.

Of course, I can imagine such scenarios.  I'm just saying that it's one of the more difficult conflicts to write.

I was kind of thinking of just giving them both crappy situations in different places and the battle is just who builds up their group the best, not actually physically competing with each other.  They don't even have to know the other one exists.

Though yes, if they were both in Elantris or both in a bridge crew, they would be friends.

  2. The important thing about Sazed in the Elend's group vs Dalanar's group is before Sazed fights he'll totally complain about not being a warrior before he kicks some chull.

He'd probably only use speed to dodge shard blades, not really on the attacking part, and he'd probably not use precision to hit eyeslits. He'd probably just dodge blades and punch plate tapping a lot of pewter.

In his mind the fight would be about trying to to die and/or protecting the person he's ment to protect (in the Elend isn't a mistborn fight, Elend most likely.

Also, with whether or not they have other allomancers than just the crew, I'm pretty sure from back FE most of the crew having their own subgroup and those allomancers staying, not too many of those died before Elend became mistborn.  So I'd say if this is a pre-mistborn fight we have to give at least a few pewter burners and some other mistings.

On the other hand, pre-Elend Mistborn also is before he really gets them to have a decent army, so other than the mistings and vin, the normal army would get slaughtered  (vin and some mistings could do a lot more damage to a normal army than shardbearers though, so they'd really be what protects the army from the other army)

Since spears are tipped with metal and the light eyes will have metal swords, and everyone has metal armor, vin (and if they have any coinshots) would have a huge advantage.

Because mistings and mistborn have such an advantage over the the normal fighters and the WoK group's army is better, I'd say, like everyone else, it comes down to what the best of both teams could do.  If Vin is alive she could probably take most of the army, especially if she has a Dboost and just throws everyone. If Vin is cut by a shardblade, the rest of Dalinar's army will be able to take the weak Venture army.

  3. Kelsier v. Kaladin would go to Kaladin. If it's purely spears, it would take a while, but Kaladin would win. Kelsier is good, but he's not that good. Yeah, his fight with the Inquisitor was awesome, but he had a lot of other tricks up his sleeve, particularly with iron and steel. And if you give him other metals, you've got to give Kaladin spheres. And that makes this fight significantly shorter. Kaladin with spheres would take Kelsier down really fast. I mean, the entire Parshendi army couldn't take Kaladin down with all their arrows, so a few coins aren't going to do anything to him. And with all that stormlight, Kelsier doesn't stand a chance.

Kelsier could also take down armies though. Fighting Kaladin would be like fighitng a lurcher. You have to make sure the coins don't hit the shield, but you could pull it off. Especially if you over shoot and then pull it back, it will go past them and come up from behind, pulling it to the shield will just make it come to you more.

Stormlight would give him about as much of a bonus as a lurcher and pewter burner, but if Kel has all of the metals (lets just say all he knows how to use, b/c, well obviously only those) Lets also say no atium otherwise I feel this is an easy battle, he obviously wins since stormlight doesn't give you a way of seeing the future and fighting that (and Kel usually made sure he had atium, since he had to fight those with atium).

So, now it is stormlight which is lurcher defense+pewter against Coinshot, Lurcher, Pewter. He probably wont use emotional allomancy, he might not use tin, but if he does he'll notice the glowing.

Spheres are metal, aren't they? if so, pushing them away stops his stormlight and it is an instant loss.

I'd say Kel has a much larger advantage.

  4. I just thought of it as not funny and an attempt to get Sanderfans to go there and bring up their views.

And it got us talking about it and is posted here and on reddit, and has more people that don't read their comments going there and adding to their views.

It was not funny or entertaining, but it was effective.

  5. So, yeah, pretty much what I said then, oh, and if I know everything we know, I'd also figure out how to use my powers for normal space travel, since we know it could be done and will be done, but i'll want to know sooner. haha

If nothing else I'd just find a way of surviving in space (pretty much a space suit and compounding breath so I don't need too much oxygen) and if nothing else, just get something heavy and push and pull against it while making my self heavier to push and lighter to pull. lol.

I'd do a lot of testing to see what is the best way to use other powers with that to go fastest and safest. lol

Or, I don't know, find Brandon and ask him these questions I don't know the answer to and use emotional alomancy to make him tell me. haha

  6. Now when we say his powers, do we just mean Fer and Mistborn powers, or also being a sliver? Having touched the power and all that?

Is there a ruin like entity too, or just the preservation like one I get my powers from? Everyone's talking about after the fact, but while having the power of preservation I'd try to fix as much as i can.

But yeah, just being having F and M powers I'd probably just live really comfortably for a while, do what I'd normally do but do it really well.

First thing I'd do is Dboost my platinum to see the future of my actions. I'd probably do that before making any major decisions.

I'd probably research to find out all of the information I can about my powers, we're assuming if we wake up with his powers we know how allomancy and all works. Which honestly, if it includes being a sliver, then it makes sense that we would know that.

I'd try and make sure I could world hop.

It's likely if I let people know about my powers i'd always burn platinum to make sure no one could kill me. Then, if someone tries to kill me with normal weapons, usually metal based, magneto that rust and push all metal they use away, being like 1k pounds and Dpushing away from me, that would probably be able to protect me from the armies with their guns.

Oh no, non-metalic weapons? Good thing I was compounding speed, fastthought, strength and healing. Oh, now I noticed a battle will start, time to Dburn my Platinum and see how to win the fight.

Oh, I can't win? time to world hop.

I would also totally watch tv and things while storing all of my stuff up at the same time. haha. Possibly do that in a time bubble. haha.

I'd probably be the reason we no longer have metals to use anymore. haha.

I'd probably try and become a scientist, I'd plan on living forever, so I'd want to make sure tech advances enough to keep the planet alive with me. haha

I'd hope to figure out not just world hopping, but a way to travel through space.

  7. I'm listening to Way of Kings again (which I find to be a really funny book to listen to an audiobook of, b/c while the guys in the story listen to way of kings, I listen to it as well. haha) and I'm at the end and just had a thought, what if all of the shards are not just called shards for no reason, but are actually "Shards" of honor. I don't really know a lot about splinters, I'm assuming emperor's soul has more on that, since that's the only cosmere book I didn't get to yet, but could all of the shardblades and plates just be a splinter of Honor.  Could "Unite them" not only be about uniting the people, but getting all of the "shards" together to recreate the Honor Shard?  Assuming any of the people in this first book live until the end, is it possible that the shardblades/plates get brought together to recreate the Honor Shard and become either honor, or what ever the splinters create

  8. Feruchemical steel or a time bubble would be nice for ChayShan.

Both would be really good with Rithmacy too (only including it because it fits with the comsere magic systems, it was just moved to an earth type setting and is no longer cosmere, magic wise it would fit though)

Shardplate makes you stronger right? (I'm still toward the beginning middle of way of kings) How about just hanging out in shardplate and filling pewter

  9. I think those are the best duels in any world.

Get drunk, the one who could sing after the most drinks wins, by the time someone wins you don't remember the cause of the fight.

(Also, if for some reason talk about end of the book type stuff might happen, could you spoiler tag it for me, I'm on in the beginning to middle of the book right now)

  10. Hoid. If you Awaken Lerasium, then draw an Aon while holding it and then infuse it with Stormlight and swallow it, you become Hoid

    I believe it!

I'm only a little bit into Way of Kings, but if you awaken one of THOSE swords, I think there would be some crazy rust. Though I don't know enough about those to know if that would even be possible. Same if you awaken That armor.

  11. But it also is giving them the power to destroy. That is the balance of it. He mainly wants to let the most people create or destroy as they want.

Pretty much, though, I agree with you. Sazed is so much like what I would expect someone effected by Harmony to be like with out being effected by Harmony that I can't really tell if it is effecting him at all, haha.

  12. Why was Lightsong hot?

You're supposed to look what you think that you should look like, and he constantly states that he doesnt believe he's a god, he thinks he is a lazy, useless fop, so shouldn't he look like a lazy not active dude?

  13. I finished the book a few days ago, so it's not spoiler for me anymore, haha. But yeah, that wouldnt have been that big of a spoiler anyway.

Yeah, since that fake sex scene I had a lot more favorite scenes and favorite lines.

  14. Why don't you like compounding as a concept? just too OP?

Pewter burner and speed storing would be nice. When ever you burn pewter you could store speed to be about normal speed for awesome speed storing. The big balance with being a fering is that for a cool bonus storing sucks, being able to store like all the time and not lose your speed is awesome.

Then, when you arent storing and you use that speed boost on top of your pewter boost, you'd be crazy fast really strong.

Also, since that other topic was in cosmere, this is different, since it could include Rithmatist and the rest of the non-cosmere ones.

  15. I'm reading this for the first time, and I'm only almost 200 pages in, but I just got to the scene where after siri was told the priests would listen to hear if she had sex with the god king she fakes having sex. That scene was so funny!

  16. Yeah, I'm thinking if he says mistborn are really not coming back then it is probably a hemalugic mistborn, like Vortaan says, like Sylar.

And for "they CLAIM to be descended from Spook" I think that could be a lot like Spike from Buffy says "If every vampire that says they were at the crucifixion was there, it would look like bloody woodstock."  Probably while many people are, many people probably just say they are.

  17. The Googledoc you posted in the CTcon thread had a link to a sound file in it. you could listen to the whole panel there https://soundcloud.com/gavin-king-4/brandon-spotlight-pcc-13

Skaa, I agree, it totally feels like it could have fit on Sel, though balance wise I don't think it would fit with other types of magic working on the same planet.

I feel that is the only problem with Rithmatics being in the cosmere, I think it just isn't as strong of a magic compared to most of the others, for anything other than just doing things in it's magic system (using rithmatics against like a mistborn or something would pretty much equal hiding in a box and hoping they don't just jump over the wall (very thick fracking LoF to make that as high as you could. haha)

  18. Yeah, from my understanding of Realmic theory (which is pretty much just those 3 different realms and that it might involve god things like ruin and preservation (going to wait until I get caught up on all cosmere books before really diving into much more of the stuff on the god things being shards etc)) Rithmatics seems to really fit in with Realmic theory still.

For this thread, if we just assume that it fits realmic theory completely and use that for the frame work, would that help us with more theories about Rithmatics.

The only thing that I think we could discount for Rithmatics is that it is caused by a shard/shards, b/c that seems to me that is the main part of Realmic theory that can't work out of the Cosmere. (and this is also with me only knowing that shards are things like Ruin and Preservation...Lol)

But yeah, like you say Shardlet, it would give us a frame for analyzing and theorizing, if we just assume that frame is there, what things could we figure out?

And yeah, that's the only thing I could think of that wasn't said during the panel (so this must have been while playing magic), you listened to the sound file of the panel, right?

Oh, the only other thing other than this and the things at the panel I could think of is I asked him a bit about hoid, and him being in all of these different stories that are so many years a part is not just living long and planet hopping, but there is also a bit of time hopping (a mix of both living long and time hopping)

  19. So, I remember hearing that when Brandon made the magic system for what ended up being the Rithmatist he did originally plan for it to be in a cosmere book, and that the magic system worked in the cosmere.

If the story ended up not being a YA book and was not based on earth, what do you think would change, if anything to the magic system. I don't know a lot about Realmic theory because I only read Elantris, the Mistborn books, and The Rithmatist, but how would your theories about Rithmatics change (since we don't really know everything about Rithmatics yet) if it was in a cosmere world?
