One thing about the Shattering has always seemed odd to me: why didn’t Adonalsium fight back? My theory is that it has to do with the Dawnshard Exist. We know Hoid held Exist, and that it permanently altered his Spiritweb so that he cannot intentionally harm living beings. If simply holding Exist had that lasting effect on Hoid, then what would happen to someone who wielded it for eons? Adonalsium held all four Dawnshards while creating the Cosmere, so my thought is that Exist eventually became an absolute constraint on His nature, making Him literally incapable of intentionally harming living beings, even in self-defense. If that’s true, then the Dawnshards weren’t just the weapon used to Shatter Adonalsium, they were also the reason He couldn’t resist. I haven’t been able to find this idea discussed anywhere else, so I’m curious if there’s a WoB or passage that disproves it, or if anyone sees any holes in the theory.
