  1. Yes it is just meant to be played on an open tabletop. Most of the time while playing, me and my brother will put cards face down in the center of our playing area as a guideline for where the cards are meant to be. Here's kind of a link to a Google Doc that has a visual example (in the form of X's and O's) of how we personally do it to make it easier to locate the playing "grid" so to speak: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1e67xUXEi3I-vX67c9ge7EPsgaZkihOMTHzjHOTzPkHM/edit?usp=drivesdk - At some point in the future, we will hopefully have images attached to the Google Sheet that show situations and how the battlefield is setup, and the like. For now, however, I hope this helps play go better!
  2. Thank you guys so much for the support and welcoming words! I love the community here on 17th Shard, and can’t wait to contribute more! I have changed my name to something a little bit more private now as well, but this is still me, the original creator of the post haha. First, I have a few questions in regard to the general user interface and display preferences for 17th Shard that I’d love to know more about! First, how do you display the info text at the bottom of your post about yourself? For example, and in answer to your question, Shatter, I’m an Edgedancer through and through: I love their ideals -- and honestly their powers -- so much and they, in my opinion, might just be the best and most wholesome radiant order. Anyway, that was the result I got when I took the test. In relation to that, I’d love to know how I could tell people I’m an Edgedancer under my posts, and if anyone could let me know how to do that, I would greatly appreciate it! Now, for what you've all been waiting for: Towers and War! I will remind you all that this is very much still a work in progress, so there will still be many kinks to iron out. At the bottom of this page is a link to a google sheet that explains (in short hand) the rules for the game that me and my brother have been working on. Now, first of all, and above all else, I have to acknowledge the fact that most of the basis for this games and the rules we have here are from other users on the 17th Shard, (which I will hopefully get their exact names to attribute it to them properly soon), so if you haven’t seen their versions of the game, totally go look them up and check them out too, we couldn’t have done this without them! Speaking of which, most of the credit does go to my brother in the actual adaptation of this game (which is why I don’t know exactly where from the other versions that he based the game on came from haha), I’ve just been kind of tweaking the rules to make sure everything makes sense, and playtesting. My brother is the real brains of the operation, so, again, thanks so much, bro! One final thing I will say as an explanation and apology for why it took my so long to respond to this post: - I originally spent an entire week, in which I spent over 20+ hours over that time, writing an entire detailed description of the game right here on the 17th shard that explained every rule and concept that the game has to offer in every regard. I had likely over 30-40 paragraphs completely chalk full of information on the game, how it functions, and how to play it. However, just this past Friday as I was almost done with the entire thing, an unfortunately misplaced click took me out of the website, and since 17th Shard doesn’t store cookies, I lost everything. All of those hours of work down the drain. If you’ve ever had something like that happen to you before, you would understand just how soul crushing and demotivating this is. WIth that weigh down on me, and the other factors in my life such as the amount of stress I have been experiencing from school and other things, I was ready to quit right then. But, with the support and praise from my amazing Cosmere loving friends, my incredible brother, and my own determination that kept telling me to keep pushing on -- I decided that I can't just quit now. Therefore, I have begun the slow and meticulous process of writing out the entire thing once again. For now, however, this will be the end of this post until I get it written out onto a google doc (with autosave features lol), and copied back on to here. For now, I wish you luck on deciphering my brother’s and my shorthand explanations on the google spreadsheet, and I will work as fast as I can on getting a fully detailed outline and structure of the game written out in paragraph form. Please let us know if you have any questions on the game, and I will try to answer them as soon as possible. I appreciate all of the support I am getting from this project, it means a ton! “The most important step is always the next.” - Dalinar Kholin My rules for Towers and War: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1EeJXWrGD4Gy-nyItPyiGClpemT16ycT1xsp81zOe504/edit?usp=drivesdk
  3. Hey everyone! I just recently decided to create an account on here, just to see what it's like to be an active member on the forums! I have been a serious long-time member, I started reading Sanderson's books (such as Alcatraz, the Rythmatist, and the Reckoners) around 8 or so years ago, and I got into the Cosmere about 6 years ago, and have absolutely loved reading all his books. The ONLY book I haven't yet finished reading in the Cosmere is Isles of the Emberdark, but, seeing as how I pre-ordered the Tor publishing version of it on Amazon, that should arrive today, which I'm super excited about!! Then once I've read it, I'll be a fully read-up member! Just to kind of proves how into the Cosmere I am, I actually started a club at my school this year (I'm a senior in high school) that is our Worldsingrs - the Cosmere Club! Me and my two friends who started it are super proud of the full 400 signatures we were able to get in order to initiate this club, and it's been going fantastically thus far! Something amazing (in my opinion) that I have to offer to the community is that me and my older brother are currently working on a fully fleshed out concept design for a Towers card game that just uses a full 52 card face deck plus the two jokers (totalling to 54 cards). I know that there are tons of concepts for Towers out there; especially here on 17th Shard, but I really think that we have something special in the works here for a very well working version of the game here. If you have interest in seeing what we have been working on, ust let me know, and I'll make a more detailed post showing the progress we've made!
