  1. Ive read/listened through the series about a dozen times and, at this point, it seems obvious to me that Matts luck is a side effect of carrying the Shadar Logoth dagger. Think about it, the one other character of the 'Wheel of Time' series who displays such absurd/mythic luck is Padan Fayn. Padan Fayn is an, other wise ordinary, darkfriend who nails Mydralls to walls and nearly kills the actual Dragon Reborn himself, on numerous occasions, without being killed himself. And it makes sense for the evil monstrosity of Shadar logoth to imbue upon its infected carrier an otherworldly level of luck/survivability so as to unsure its re-emergence upon the world. The Aes Sedia did everything in their power to cleanse the taint of Shador Logoth from Matt when they healed him, but something like exceptional luck would likely have been overlooked because it was no threat to his life, plus they were extremely overextended just keeping him alive and untainted by Shadar Logoths evil. From that point on, Matt and Padan Fain become opposite sides of the same coin. Both using their unworldly luck for themselves, but one using it for enjoyment, self preservation, and the benefit of the pattern, the other for darkness, pain, and the end of all things.
