  1. For what it's worth, this was by far my favorite of the Era 2 books. I love the cosmere stuff and liked that the stakes were higher than the other novels, and I thought the character arcs for all characters were great. In contrast I thought Bands of Mourning's MacGuffin quest was kinda dumb (though that book had a great ending) and shadows of self genuinely annoyed me for various reasons. Alloy of Law was just a character intro book and was fine for what it was but not something to write home about. In Lost Metal, the mid-boss type villains were kinda pointless but at least lead to some fun action scenes and almost every other character and scene I loved, especially the end. I only wish we'd gotten a bigger state change in Scadrial. Basically, we, the reader, wind up knowing a lot more about what's going on by the end, but the state of the world and the Cosmere is basically the same after this book as it was before the first book in the series. I'm sure this was intentional as these were meant to be smaller more personal stories, but the constrast between this and Era 1 or Stormlight Archive is striking. I would have liked to have seen something in here to get me more excited about what might happen in Era 3, but that's a minor complaint. I'll still be reading no matter what.
