  1. I expected them to be saved in a different way. A little rewrite: --- Kaladin watched from where he had fallen to the pain. Szeth began to disintegrate to dark smoke, his hand evaporating, then his arm. Kaladin stretched out his hand, trailing its own dark smoke, toward his friend. The wind blew around him as if frantic, and Syl was screaming in pain. "Stop it, Ishar!" Nale's voice, distant. "I cannot. I... I cannot, Nale! The sword will consume me if I touch it! There is no Stormlight. It has taken it all..." Kaladin needed to replace its sheath, but he couldn't speak, couldn't even... think... His eyes closed, and he began to drift off into a permanent darkness. If it wasn't for that light behind his eyes, he'd surely be asleep already. Wait... what was that warm light? It was waking him back up... Opening his eyes, Kaladin saw Szeth bathed in a shaft of light once again, at that moment turning to sprint towards Nightblood's sheath. Already his new light was beginning to fade, rushing away from him into the sword. Szeth snatched the sheath, turned, and sprinted towards where Nightblood was still spinning on the soil, almost appearing like the line of light between him and the sword was pulling him in. The next moment, Nightblood was safe back in its sheath and Szeth collapsed to the ground, a few remaining wisps of light curling away from him. "What...?" Kaladin croaked. "How?" Ishar still stood, solemnly gazing at the scene. "I suppose that in defeating the other honorbearers he has completed his quest. He achieved the fourth ideal." Nale looked as confused as Kaladin felt. "The fourth ideal? But he already said the fifth!" The light had done little for Kaladin, but he was alive. He still felt almost completely drained. Storms, Syl had been screaming... where was she now? There she was, sitting on a fallen pillar, looking completely bemused. "Humans, Kal. I told you."
