I more often find myself writing bits and pieces more than full novels, but I've produced a couple over the years (none published). I'm currently working on a project that I'm feeling pretty good about, a space opera saga that I started for NaNo and have been updating intermittently since; I estimate I'm a bit under two thirds of the way done. The title is Realm of the Stars Volume I: The Unclaimed Crown, and I describe it as the Arthurian Mythos meets Star Wars meets Dune. I'm serializing it on the boards here, and any feedback is always appreciated it! I have plans for about a half-dozen other books too, but none written there yet, unfortunately;).

Not a new chapter today, but playing around with the Sci-Fi Warrior character creators on AzaleasDolls, I was able to come up with some rough portraits for some of my characters; not super accurate from the limitations of the program, but close enough for a rough idea. Here's Arta, Mardoban, and Midaia, with potentially more to come later.

New chapter! Note: this is the end of NaNo, but as this story isn't done, I intend to keep working on it, and to keep posting it here for now!

So, this year I decided to do something I've never done before and try my hand at NaNoWriMo with a story idea I've been tossing around for a while; think Star Wars meets the Arthurian Mythos, with a little Dune thrown in for good measure. Feedback is appreciated!

Brandon's "State of the Sanderson"
MasterGhandalf replied to eojsmada's topic in 17th Shard Discussion
Well, even given the prioritizing of non-Cosmere stuff, it looks like we'll be getting a solid variety of Cosmere material in the future. Looks like Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell, Sixth of the Dusk, Words of Radiance, Shadows of Self, Stormlight 3, and Elantris 2 are all in the pipe for the next couple of years, and Silence Divine, White Sand, Nightblood, the second Mistborn trilogy, Skyward, and of course further Stormlight novels are also planned for farther out. Looks like a pretty cool variety, here, and I'm not sure whether to be more exited about new worlds or sequels! Is this the first anyone's heard of Skyward, by the way (sounds like it's YA, but it's still Cosmere so I'll be checking it out when it does happen). Cool stuff all around, and best of luck to Brandon in getting it all off the ground. -
Odium's holder was no saint. The Letter uses words like "crafty" and "loathsome" to describe Rayse, and Word of Brandon indicates that part of what makes Odium so dangerous is how well matched the Shard is to its holder's personality. Seems safe to say that Rayse was no Ati.

River of Souls [OBLIGATORY SPOILER TAG]
MasterGhandalf replied to Trizee's topic in The Wheel of Time
I really enjoyed it as well- Demandred is one of the most fascinating (not to mention formidable) of the Forsaken, and it's great to have a chance to see a little bit more inside his head. (Isn't it interesting that none of the "Big Three" Forsaken really fit the traditional power-hungry maniac who joined for immortality mode? Ishamael/Moridin was an insane nihilist who wanted to destroy everything, Demandred just wanted the chance to finally defeat his hated rival, and Lanfear wanted to depose the Dark One himself and take his place...) Anyway, it's interesting to think about what the book would have been like with this section as part of it, instead of as a short story. Ultimately, though, the Demandred reveal was, I think, one of the best moments in AMOL (for some reason I tend to think of this:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mVA0YadPys0 as his theme music and can't help but hear it every time I imagine the Sharans marching out of the giant gateway, which gives me chills), and I'm glad it is where it is. Still, this little bit is really fascinating and I'm glad I was able to read it. -
Your favorite character?
MasterGhandalf replied to chongjasmine's topic in Elantris and Emperor's Soul
Hrathen, definitely. It's fairly rare for a character to be both an extremely effective villain and to carry their own dramatic arc that the reader gets emotionally invested in, and Hrathen does both with style. I'm also a sucker for redemption stories, and am always moved by Sarene's tribute at Hrathen's grave at the end. Elantris is probably my least favorite full-length Cosmere book (not that I don't like it, mind, I just think the others are better), but I still consider Hrathen one of Brandon's best characters.
