The figure raised a hand, and Jakob’s mouth stopped moving. “The effect should wear off after a while. You’ve exhausted any help you could get from us.” The figure turned away, and the walked out of view.

“That wasn’t the government, those were the actions of a private citizen employed by the government, and they will not go unpunished.”

“We’re here because you delimbed someone! Now, I don’t know where you’re from, but in where I’m from, that’s a serious crime. Like… really *freaking* serious. Do you expect the government to let you just… do whatever?”

“…what?” The figure was genuinely confused.

“There are prisons.” The figures around him shift, and they speak up. “Slave labor is not supposed to… be.”
