Late-evening semi-depression question
Why do friends shift away?
I have a friend who I was really close to for awhile, but he hasn't really spoken to me or anybody in our friend group except one for quite some time. Then tonight I find out not only is today his birthday (it's been two years I feel bad but I just completely forgot it) but he had an appendix out. And I find out cause he texts the group chat, but won't reply to any of my personal texts
Idk it just hurts

I
well
i don’t know
i
um
I have a few friends from middle school. I still know them
im still “friends” - but, like… man,
like
One of them has become sort of “anti-nerd” somehow. Like - we’re at a college prep school, but he’s concerned about what’s cool.
He like
Everything I am now, everything I’ve shifted towards is stuff he’s shifted against.
We just don’t have anything in common anymore.

This may or may not help, but I've found it to be true in my life
A big part is communication. If you don't communicate a lot, then yeah you're gonna begin to go apart. As an example, I have a friend who used to be one of my best friends, but went to boarding school, and now it's kinda awkward talking to her.
Communicate, get eachother's feelings about things, etc.
I get it might be tough if they don't respond to your texts, but I would keep trying. Communication matters.
Hope that helps
