I got a very general theory about the endings of the back half of Stormlight Archive that I can’t find anybody else talking about. Very general spoilers for the tone and some of the details (and I don’t mean the rhythms talked about throughout the books) of the endings of Stormlight 1-4 ahead, I’ve only read the preview of the prologue of Stormlight 5. In short my theory is that the tone of the endings is in itself a very loose palindrome/ketek. the emphasis on tone and rhythm in Stormlight Archives might be related or might not be. So the tone of the ending from the first book matches the tenth and last book, in my opinion a mostly locally happy ending, especially for our protagonists with some ominous hints of something in the future that we aren’t really sure about when we read it.
The second book’s ending matches the ninth, in other words a small victory with the “good” side emerging fairly unscathed and with new resolve and powers but with costs and the “evil” side having unleashed its powers. The third book matches the eighth, a large, both morally and strategically, victory for our protagonists with a solidification of several advantages and a plan for the future from the antagonist to make up for what has happened. The fourth book matches the seventh, with the protagonist stabilizing and having won the day but the antagonists seeming to prepare to win the war and having learned a lot. Finally the fifth book matches the sixth, whatever the ending looks like in that book. Late edit: I completely forgot, it could also be that the beginning of the sixth book matches the ending of the fifth, the ending of the sixth matches the beginning of the fifth and so on. Sorry about that.
What do you guys think? I’m willing to admit that I’m wrong in my interpretations of the endings and this might all be very subjective and general, but the important part is that I’m guessing that the tone of the endings of the first half matches the endings of the second half but backwards and what I’ve written down is just my interpretation and example of how it could be. Have I missed something obvious or has Brandon taken this up somewhere already.
