The hallway outside the hallway they were in was a really nice choke point and they could probably defend against an assault on the room for days or weeks. Hence the supplies he had stuffed here.

Thomas' job was important, he knew that, but that didn't stop it from being BORING. He was one of the most inner guards, guarding The Room. He didn't know what was in The Room but it was obviously important. He held his gun at the ready, he would not fail. He would not get caught unaware.
