Hallandren Stormrunners
Nightstar The Bright replied to Nightstar The Bright's topic in The Coppermind Wiki
Alright, thanks for the creating permission. I’ll make the page shortly. I agree with you on this one, it’s better to discuss it beforehand. Thanks for the compliment! No problem for the late reply, we’re not in a hurry. -
Technologies on the coppermind
Nightstar The Bright replied to Nightstar The Bright's topic in The Coppermind Wiki
I can see that, and I’ve felt that myself when editing. Indeed, this was my point, but I think it’s better to start this process right now, as we do actually have a nice amount of fabrials. Something along the lines of ‘Scadrians Airships’, this is what the current TLM and BOM varieties are called. -
After thinking on it some more, I think we should remove the Southern Scadrial place completely, splitting it up in multiple pages. This is because there isn’t really any information that belongs exclusively to this page. Well, using your Makabak example, Makabak also has many nations inside it, and that’s what these Scadrians are, nations and peoples. The Malwish Consortium is also important, although I do see it being moved to the Malwish page. Indeed we don’t have an Azish Empire page, but I think we simply do not know enough of the Consortium to say that they’re like that. We don’t know how much they’ve United, do they only practise foreign relations together or are they truly one nation/empire. Until we can say this I’m convinced we’ll need the page. I would be surprised, they still have their own culture after all.

What is the protocol on adding unnamed pages? Because I think Daal’s former warship deserves a page, it has a history a crew and a description. it also plays a role in TLM (very small but still). If Susebron’s mother gets a page I think this warship should also get a page. What do you guys think?

Technologies on the coppermind
Nightstar The Bright replied to Nightstar The Bright's topic in The Coppermind Wiki
Brunstell and Wilg are individual airships, we also have Daal’s warship and BOM has some information on the hunter’s ship as well. I think a common page would do good, because we actually have a lot of information. (Yes, mostly Malwish airships but still, the page could be a Malwish one) Among these four ships I think we definitely have enough information (It doesn’t have to be 2000 words and it certainly wouldn’t just be a brunstell page) Well I think your right here, but I don’t see why we shouldn’t begin now, we already have a chunk of information. Yes your right here, my bad for using technology. I should’ve used Fabrial. -
So I have a question, how is the copper mind handling/going to handle technology? Are specific ‘investiture using’ technologies gonna have their own pages/ are they gonna be on a parent page under the title of technology? Take Scadrian airships for example, where are they being/going to be placed? I could see them being on the pages of the southern Scadrian peoples. However it could be argued they should have their own page, as airships are quite important and have a lot of information. I think (please correct me if I’m wrong) they (currently) don’t really have a place. I see this as a major problem with the coppermind as well, we don’t have a great handle of technology/where they should be written down. I don’t really see the coppermind ignoring it though, and just writing down the broader mechanics.

Currently the southern Scadrian page contains all known information on the southern Scadrians and their lands. I think this is in dire need of a rework as south scadrial is a large place with many nations and peoples. It might have functioned fine after the release of the bands of mourning, but with TLM, and Brandon writing more and more cosmere aware/crossover books, I think it just doesn’t work anymore. I propose new pages for each of the nations. What do you guys think? It’s certainly a significant project, but I don’t see another way, it’s gonna have to be fixed someday.

Hallandren History
Nightstar The Bright replied to Nightstar The Bright's topic in The Coppermind Wiki
Yeah quite a large page, but anyway, I’m currently working on a rework of the Hallandren page (the second part of User:Nightstar The Bright) and I’ll fix a nice history part. Thanks for taking the time to answer! -
Hallandren History
Nightstar The Bright replied to Nightstar The Bright's topic in The Coppermind Wiki
Alright, that’s a good one. There is a Hanald page, but alright, I’ll make a short history about Hanald -
The Hallandren page contains a lot of History, and while that’s great, there is a lot of information from before Hallandren was founded (back when it was still Hanald) I think this is unnecessary/wrong as Hallandren wasn’t the same kingdom as Hanald, I mean we have a whole different page for that kingdom. I suggest we remove this information and just start with the conclusion of the Manywar what are your thoughts on this?

But I don’t have the rights to actually edit that new page -

Alright, can I make this page myself/ how can I? Or can someone make it for after which I can place the information in. -
The ' on the coppermind
Nightstar The Bright replied to Nightstar The Bright's topic in The Coppermind Wiki
Well, if I type [[T’Telir]] it doesn’t work as a link (it becomes a new page) but if I type [[T'Telir]] it does work. -
Stormrunners are ships in Hallandren that sail out during the spring storms, catching fish at the time nobody else is. I feel like there should be a page for this one as it’s a nalthian culture thing. What do you guys think?

The Phantoms and the future of Nalthian militaries
Nightstar The Bright replied to Nightstar The Bright's topic in Warbreaker
Now either I’m overestimating the thickness of the stone or your underestimating it. Stone, smooth and round, is really hard to break (requiring actual effort with something like a pickaxe) steel might also be hard, but it bends fairly easily. Also Phantoms and a regular lifeless are not comparable, Phantoms are twice as tall and far stronger and also way heavier. Any phantom will easily kill a regular lifeless, even with full plate. This is one of the few weaknesses of plate, it protects well from sharp edges, but blunt force will still hurt, even with a gambeson underneath, getting tossed around or hit by a beast with the strength of a Phantom will still break bones and cause internal bleeding. Crushing a lifeless shouldn’t be to hard, considering your a Phantom of some 4 meters tall and made of solid rock. Yes a regular lifeless encased in steel would do better then one encased in stone, but Phantoms aren’t regular. But they don’t need visors, that will significantly help with protecting the lifeless. No breathing, no visor = only areas open for mobility. -
The Northern kingdoms on Nalthis
Nightstar The Bright replied to Nightstar The Bright's topic in The Coppermind Wiki
Alright, thanks. I’ll edit the page one of these days. -
Nalthis has multiple kingdoms across the mountains, sometimes called ‘the northern kingdoms.’ The only named of these kingdoms are Kuth and Huth, although these were destroyed in the Manywar. so while these kingdoms aren’t named ( some named kingdoms might be here, but we’re not sure) there is some information about them. Currently this information isn’t in the coppermind, as there is no place for it. I suggest a page called ‘The Northern Kingdoms’ to collect this information. What do you guys think?

The Phantoms and the future of Nalthian militaries
Nightstar The Bright replied to Nightstar The Bright's topic in Warbreaker
We don’t know whether the other scholars knew what they were. Nonetheless this doesn’t disprove my point, a higher tech Nalthis will likely mop up how they work within a hundred years or so (spionage/stealing plans etc) Ahh, well true. But you only have to do the second one in times of war. Fair, I hadn’t thought about the whole sinew thing being really hard to figure out. Well that depends on how many citizens it has, small countries can have many people. Also I don’t think you can say that they would prefer regular lifeless. It depends on their tactics and technologies and the terrain as well as the amounts of breaths required to make Phantoms. That’s really not true, full plate isn’t nearly as strong as straight up stone. Does make me wonder though, do lifeless need to see to fight? Like do they need visors or not, and how does this work in the Phantoms. -
Again? But nonetheless, the amount of people successfully stealing breaths would be very small, and could easily be made smaller through enough security. Getting out of the building could prove difficult, I don’t see how just having breath would make it easy, not everyone can awaken and as stated before enough security will prevent all but the rarest of the rarest from escaping. Once again, hiding and leaving the country while being hunted by police isn’t easy. Enough security in the buildings, multiple checkpoints, people checking if i you have anything awakened/have breaths etc. Actually there is a good guarantee they’ll give the breath back. They’d give it back for multiple reasons, torture/a lesser sentence etc etc, he won’t be able to keep them indefinitely. well, there will always be people selling their breaths, and a lot more would be available (population growth). enough security bla bla bla lmao. All the points you make here are very real, but that happens in our world as well, and there are still shops selling these items, jewelry shops etc. Enough security will prevent most people from running off. Lemex just bought his breaths right? I mean with stolen money but he didn’t steal his breaths. I mean stealing breaths wouldn’t be an easy way way to get rich, sure it might still be one of the ways people get rich, but not more then banks and jewelry shops in our world. People might very well give you a million dollars as long as you give it back in a minute and are being watched by security. Optimistic. Neither do I, but I do have enough faith in security and the police etc.

The Phantoms and the future of Nalthian militaries
Nightstar The Bright replied to Nightstar The Bright's topic in Warbreaker
We don’t know how long Vasher had his Phantoms before he went to war, and how long the people remembered what they were, but a fairly high tech(higher then manywar tech) Nalthis should be able to mop up how they work in a hundred years or so Uhh no? You don’t need to awaken the stone, if that would be needed even Susebron couldn’t have awakened a thousand of them. You need to use the breath to make a sort of sinew. Another advantage of the Phantoms lies in that you can reclaim the breaths, you don’t need them active during wartime, this doesn’t work with regular lifeless. While yes they are still very expensive, I think they aren’t expensive enough where smaller nations wouldn’t make them. No, regular lifeless wouldn’t be replaced completely, they would still be used, just less because Phantoms will takeover the whole ‘go and storm that place’. Actually though, Phantoms are a whole lot cheaper then tanks, they also don’t require humans inside them to operate. Phantoms are a little like shardbearers (with plate) in this regard, they are very strong and can wreak havoc, but yeah they’re not invincible. -
The Phantoms and the future of Nalthian militaries
Nightstar The Bright posted a topic in Warbreaker
Kalad’s Phantoms are large lifeless made from bones encased in stone, due to this weapons are virtually useless against them, and they are far stronger and more dangerous then other lifeless. Hallandren acquired these Phantoms after the Pahn Kahl rebellion, and used them effectively against the regular lifeless army. From what we saw Susebron is fairly peaceful and is unlikely to use these phantoms to conquer other nations. This means that the Phantoms will simply be standing around in Hallandren, while the news about these reborn/recalled Phantoms spreads. Eventually, although it might take a while, other nations will realise what they are, either through experimentation or spionage, and build their own. At this point most of the Nalthian kingdoms will have Phantoms replacing their regular lifeless. This will change how warfare is practised on Nalthis, regular humans becoming even less important. Nations from other planets will also have trouble fighting with Nalthian kingdoms, as many nations don’t have access to this kind of firepower, although some invested arts might destroy this advantage. Even with the inevitable discovery of guns and artillery Phantoms will stay the main troops used, stone is still far more resistant to bullets then flesh, although their importance might go down. -
Well… it’s unlikely that many people are that good at awakening, nonetheless though, this is the same thing as giving people guns in a gun store, people aren’t randomly going to shoot and kill everybody, even if they can. People tend to follow the rules, and certainly don’t want to become criminals (except the occasional person). Well no screaming wouldn’t work, but hunting them down with police would, besides people are generally nice, they won’t run or kill you the moment they get the breath. Also awakening isn’t that much like a real superpower, one person with a couple hundred breath can’t destroy an entire city. I really don’t see why it is too risky, the chance people run off with the breath is small, and the chance they escape capture is even smaller. Now are these other methods really cheaper? Because passing breaths around is fairly cheap, and gold feruchemy needs to be charged, which takes a long time. To use stormlight you must be a radiant and for progression you need stormlight, as well as a radiant or a fabrial. To heal using the dor you will need to use one of the invested arts on Sel that can heal. All of these have significant drawbacks, although Breath also has these, they are still fairly cheap as you only need to collect them once.
-
Makes me wonder if modern day Nalthis has hospitals just passing breaths around, and when your healed you have to give it back. Why would you assume to get the breaths back? Because that’s the law/they don’t really have a choice because otherwise they get locked up etc. You can definitely give a million dollars to a sick person, and demand it back after they’re healed, this is the way the law works, basically give it back or become a criminal.
-
So I wonder, the more breaths one has the more resistant you get to disease. But I mean it’s unlikely that it just heals the disease in a second, otherwise you’d be passing breaths around left and right, healing everyone who needs it. So maybe it’s just suppressing the disease, waiting for you to release the breaths. What do you guys think? Why aren’t breaths passed around, healing everyone who needs it/ how does this healing work? Chapter 43: You’ve got enough Breath for at least the Third Heightening, if I’m reading you right. You’ll never know sickness. Coppermind: The Fifth Heightening grants Agelessness; an Awakener's resistance to aging and disease reaches its maximum strength.
