Hmm, I dont know, that feels like saying American History begins at 1776, and that the colonial times that came before in those regions must be discussed as a separate thing.  I think I'd arge that these pages are about the region, inclusive of the people, geography, culture, and Government structure.

I see what you are saying, but the American colonies were very close to the foundation of the American state (like including a fall of (… sliver kingdom) on one of these pages, which I think is a good idea) but the silver kingdoms and their ‘successors’ aren’t terribly close at all (Makamakam is culturally real different then Azir). So far, most nation pages are about the nations themselves (e.g. we have a Hallandren and a Hanald page, both are in the same region, but they’re different nations (same with Tu bayla and Bayala)). It should also be noted that we have separate pages for the silver kingdoms, if nation pages are more about the people and culture, shouldn’t these be merged (following your logic)?

  2. I’ve noticed that many of the major Rosharan nation pages (Azir, Alethkar, Shinovar etc), which could be considered the successors to the Silver kingdoms, include history from before their founding (human arrival, heraldic Epochs etc). I think this should be removed, or rather moved to the Silver kingdoms pages, because, like I said, the states weren’t there yet. These nation pages aren’t about the land itself, their about the nations. What do you guys think of this?

I would position them in between general and Highprice, with the difference being that Highmarshal commands their own army in the name of their Highprince and has a bigger autonomy and authority than a general. Highmarshal might not even be a military rank, but a distinction, just like the French marshal.

    That makes sense.

Depending on the size of the rearguard. If 100 men then companylord, if 1000 then companylord etc. That's a duty, not a rank.

I hadn’t actually thought about it like that, but it makes sense that it is a duty instead of a rank.

    13 hours ago, alder24 said:

There is also a bridgelord here. I'm guessing that's another duty thing, not a military rank. By this quote alone I'm guessing Perethom is responsible for organizing and scheduling the entire infantry divisions of Dalinar's army, in Coppermind it's said that during the burning of Rathalas he was a highmarshal - so I would guess that's his rank, if highmarshal is a military rank. He has a special task of commanding all of Dalinar's infantrymen. But not in the battle type commanding, but the day-to-day type commanding, giving them duties, tasks, guard hours etc. The same goes for the title of a brigdelord, who's responsible for all bridge crews, or the archerlord who's responsible for archers alone (if there is one, as there is no mention of that word in all 4 books). That's supported by the Coppermind, Alethkar#Militarism:

Yeah that makes more sense, but Perethom did fight (he died at the tower). So he probably did command, but just not all the infantry. Note that there is an Archerlord mentioned, his name is Ashelem. (Sa1 ch26)

  4. So yeah, like the title says, I don’t really understand the command structure of the Alethi military.  Can someone answer the questions below?

    subsquad 6–8 - sergeant

    squad ~25 - squadleader

    platoon ~50 - captain/captainlord

    company ~100 - companylord

    battalion ~1000 - battalionlord

    division ~2000 - general

    army - highprince

Then there are also the following ranks:

highmarshal, what is his job? What does a highmarshal command and where does he fit in the chain of command? (Kaladin and Perethom (during the rift) were two highmarshals)

Highofficer, what is his job, what does he command and where does he fit into the chain of command? (Teleb served as highofficer)

company second, am I right to assume it’s just the second in command of a companylord?

Then there are also certain officers who have specific duties, an example of this is the ‘commander of the rearguard’. Where exactly do they fit in the chain of command?

There are also officers who command certain parts of the army, such as the ‘infantrylord’ or ‘Archerlord’. Where do these fit in the chain of command?

  5. The Coppermind contains a page called ‘Aonic Royal Families’. I think this page is unnecessary. All it contains is a lineage of the two Royal families, which, while useful and interesting, don’t need their own page. There is also the fact that most people won’t notice the page.

I think that the page should be divided between the pages ‘Arelon’ and ‘Teod’. I suggest splitting the lineage into two parts as well, with the Teo family on the Teod page and the Arelene family on the Arelon page, instead of keeping them together.

Let me know what you think about this!

Don't forget that Tin/Pewter are internal metals, and Zinc/Brass are external metals. So, it is likely that the first pair increase/diminish <something> coming from the spren in the gemstone (heat from the Flamespren in a heating fabrial), while the latter incerase/diminish <something> external to the spren in the gemstone (implied by the term "manifest" in the epigraph).

Ah alright, thanks. What would that ‘external’ attribute be (could you name an example)?

  7. 1 hour ago, alder24 said:

Basically zinc works with augmenters, brass with diminishers.

Wait I thought Pewter and Tin were used for Augmenter/Diminisher Fabrials? The Coppermind:

    Quote

Pewter in contact with a gemstone will cause it to express a certain attribute in force, correlated to the type of spren trapped in the gemstone. This metal is the one used to create augmenter fabrials.

Tin in contact with a gemstone will cause it to diminish nearby attributes. These are called Diminisher fabrials.

So what is the difference between these metals?

  8. The Coppermind has the following to say about the use of Zinc and Brass in Fabrials:

    Quote

Zinc in contact with a gemstone will cause its captured spren to more strongly manifest.

Brass in contact with a gemstone will cause its spren to withdraw and its power to dim.

I don’t really understand what this actually does (what happens when the spren manifests more/less?). Can someone explain it to me? (Preferably with the use of an example)

  9. Quote

The place is barren, devoid of life, merely a dark sky, endless windswept crags, and a broken landscape . And a lot of souls, a lot of not particularly sane souls.

    Rhythm of War chapter 89

Its been four and a half thousand years since the fused returned to Roshar, even without proper tools and materials they should still have built palaces on Braize.

Im going to assume that even without a body the Fused can still sing the song of prayer to acquire voidlight. Assuming they’re in the cognitive realm they could use this light to manifest objects. Raboniel seems to suggest that they are actually in the physical realm however (see the quote above). If they are in the physical realm voidlight wouldn’t even be needed to manifest things and the Fused could begin building immediately. Assuming they had voidlight the Fused could even use the surges to aid them in the building of their palaces.

Braize probably doesn’t have most of the conventional materials you would use to build your palace, but it should still have some things. For one there should be plenty of stone around, and when you’ve got plenty of time to carve it you can build almost anything out of stone. I think that if they get creative enough they can build some very nice structures. They don’t have tools either, but once again, they could make at least some tools, and for other things they could find techniques to replicate the outcome.

So why isn’t Braize one big city filled with palaces?

It might be easier to get action if you mentioned this on the Coppermind Discord. Sorry I can't help, but the Tones redirect already points to the Hallendren page, so I think a Keeper needs to change that and make the new page blank, then you would be able to cut/paste your content.

Alright thanks. I’ll be sure to look on the discord next time.

    Seems fine enough to me.

Nice. But like Treamayne said, a Keeper first needs to change it so that the page doesn’t immediately redirect to Hallandren.

  11. I’m afraid I’m going to start this up again.

Like I stated above, I edited the page a little bit, if you want to have a look go to User:Nightstar The Bright on the coppermind. Does it look alright? Should I change anything and most importantly, if it is ready, can I make a page for it/place it on the coppermind?

While we’re not in a rush I would like to be able to place it on the coppermind, finish this thread and delete it from my user page.

  12. So while searching for the Kelsier page I found a page called Kelsier’s bones. I just wonder why this page exists, there is no vital information/ information that can’t be put on other pages like Kelsier/Oreseur/Tensoon etc (in my opinion). Can someone explain to me why exactly this page exists and if not, what do you guys think about removing it and spreading the information out on other pages?

I think my only concern is the History section. It seems to recount a lot of stuff that would, in my opinion, feel more appropriate for the Nalthis, Manywar, and Hallandren/Hanald pages. So I would try to focus to be solely about how the religion developed over those times, and cut out those other details.

I removed a little bit of information, that which didn’t have anything to do with the Iridescent Tones. The truth is that the whole Kalad/Peacegiver thing about starting/ending the war is very important to the religion. Kalad is seen as something akin to the devil because of what he did, and Peacegiver is worshipped for ending the war. This just needs to be in the History section as it is very important to the religion.

Let me know what you think of this new version, although it isn’t very different.

Thumbs up from me on making a page, I definitely see what you are saying now, and in retrospect it's very obvious. This is great!

    Thanks!

Yes I agree with you, I had my doubts about this part as well. I’ll edit it soon.

I believe that it's possible the device they used was the same type that Wax used to tell that Harmonium and Trellium were Godmetals- they gave off a certain wavelength when an electric current was run through them (I think. It's been a bit since I've read the book and I don't have it on me right now).

I thought that Wax and friends were wrong in assuming that a full spectrum meant a god metal, and god metals just happened to have full spectrums. But I suppose it’s possible the Set use this to tell how invested a spike is.

It's rusty expensive and in AoL Wax was broke.

He had an aluminum gun/rifle rounds he could sell to buy the right bullets.

Miles was shot with multiple aluminum bullets (Marasi and the aluminum rifle). He can heal that. The healing flesh pushes the bullet out of the wound track (and is key to Wax using Allomancy on him in the tunnels - AoL Ch 19)

Yes, that was what I was looking for, thanks.

  17. 2 hours ago, alder24 said:

We don't know. Probably from experience. They've done this before and know it takes 20-30 people to fully invest a spike like this, thus a single person can invest it only by around 5%.

But why would she need to examine the spike? I imagine that there wouldn’t be a need to examine the spike if she already knew how invested it was. It is more likely that something about it ‘changes’, which you can see/read.

But there are ways in Cosmere to measure investiture, Cosmere spoilers:

Ah yes I had forgotten about White Sand.

  18. Quote

The woman fell silent, and the assistant washed off the bloodied spike and handed it to Labcoat, who promptly placed it in a solution attached to a device and examined it.

“Roughly five percent Invested,” she reported to Entrone. “And as you can see, the subject is still alive. We’ve essentially excised a piece of the soul and stored it in the metal.”

Like the title states, how did the scientist know that the spike was 5% invested. Is there a way to read the investiture in spikes?

Probably, to achieve invincibility against modern weapons, you would need Wayne-at-the-end-of-TLM levels of Pewter to survive.

I assume you meant the amount of bendalloy he had, I don’t remember him having an insanely large amount of pewter.

What do you think of also being able to do it if you are a pewter/Nicrosil  twinborn and storing a ton and tapping it all at once?

    That would work yeah.
