And if you are concerned if for example a Rosharan can use medallions with Preservation's investiture in them, then yes. This doesn't matter - medallions just grant powers to whomever is wearing them, they already overcome this issue of identity and connection

That makes sense thank you I just misunderstood those connection mechanics. Thanks for explaining.

The unkeyed/unsealed matalminds blanks investiture out of YOUR identity, not Shardic's identity. The example of what you're looking for is the unkeyed Dor, the one used in TLM by Marasi and Moonlight. This is unkeyed but we don't really know what it means, it's still Dor. Presumably it's unkeyed from Shardic/planetary connections, it's a blank investiture. So yes, you can unkey investiture and carry it out of the system this way, but probably not with nicrosilminds, or at least not without some additional steps.

That sort of answers my question. I was thinking more in the context of hypothetically if breath (Endowment’s investiture) was stored in a nicrosilmind and a Scadrian (ruin and preservation’s investiture) tried to use it would they even be able to. It could get off world sure but would anyone in the Cosmere be able to use any nicrosilmind like you said earlier. I’m not quite sure how the identity and connection works with that so maybe I’m thinking of it the complete wrong way.

If the nicrosilmind is unsealed (medallion) then anyone in Cosmere an use it because a medallion gives you also the ability to tap nicrosilminds, if it is just unkeyed then only Feruchemist can use it because it's just a blanked metalminds and you need to be a nicrosil Ferring to tap that. That's all, it doesn't really matter what's inside.

For some reason I was unsure if the investiture itself would still have a connection to the place it was stored in specific. So even an unsealed one that anyone in the cosmere could use the investiture might still have connection to a shard.

I imagine that you would be able to store breaths in a nicrosil metalmind. Compounding that nicrosil would be interesting because as per normal compounding, it should give you more than you put into it. However, as Investiture is used to create positive gains in allomancy, you would need to be using Investiture to duplicate Investiture.

I'm not sure if or how this would work. Maybe Preservation's power would be combined with Endowment's? But then, if that's the case, would they still be Breaths? Maybe Breaths stored in a nicrosilmind get automatically converted into raw Investiture when tapped anyway.

If this does work, it could be an easy way to gain a lot of investiture rapidly. The Ghostbloods would definitely be interested in this.

Being able to compound investiture like this wouldn’t be exclusive to breath holders on Nalthis correct. Everyone has their own innate investiture so any nicrosil compounder would be able to pull the same trick. The question here is how does the connection work. For example if a Scadrial compounded their investiture in an unsealed/unkeyed nicrosil mind would anyone from a different planet be able to use it or would the investiture itself still have connection to Scadrial. Might be an interesting question because the answer to it basically decides how viable this is as a method of easily transporting investiture offworld.

Oh, that’s a great point. Do we know if a Radiant can worldhop without breaking their bond or injuring their spren, since spren are slivers themselves?

Yes but we don't know how. Hoid does it if you've read Yumi yet but this wouldn't be common knowledge to most people. I believe its stated in Rhythm of War that due to the bonds and the fact that they are highly invested Radiants can't leave the Rosharan system due to their connection to the planet.

I completely agree. I think animation would convey the complexity of the magic better

100% this actually. It's kind of like how Avatar the last airbender can use its visual style to show airbending which wouldn't really be visible. Animation would allow for visual indications for some magics that are difficult to visually show such as bronze burning, emotional allomancy and possibly even lashings.

  7. I would love this but after how Children of the Nameless was treated by Wizards it doesn’t look likely. For those of you who don’t know the deal was Brandon would write the story for Wizards they would provide it for free and if they ever sold a physical copy the profits would go to a charity of Brandon’s choice. Wizards took the story down without notifying him so I’m not sure how their relationship is. Brandon’s also said I believe he would love to write a fantasy novel in an original plane and then design a whole set after the novel with the Wizard’s design team. I would love both of those collaborations to still happen though. An entirely draftable set would be fantastic honestly.

...also, there are 4 wards in my building, so I now have church at 1:30. Anyone else have really late (or early) times

I had this years ago when my building was under renovation. We had to move over to the stake center for probably like 6 months and I don't think I could do that again. I think we probably started around 1 or 2 This was back during 3 hour church and our stake center is over a half hour away. It's rough for sure.

The bigger issue is people cynically exploiting this, using minorities as a shield against well-deserved criticism.  You make a bad product, you put a minority front-and-center as the face of it, and then when people point out that your bad product is bad, you deflect criticism by accusing the critics of being racist/sexist/whatever.

This is true 100%. I wonder if this is part of the strategy in Disney’s live action “adaptations”. Create controversy to ensure publicity and then have an easy defense when people trash it. I don’t care if they switch the race of a character it doesn’t matter but that does seem to be a bit of a recurring strategy for Disney recently.

  10. That’s true actually most Non-Cosmere stuff wouldn’t matter a ton. Cytoverse describes ethnicities pretty well and occasionally race pops up in the plot such as Morningtide in book one. Cosmere is difficult because it’s A. What the most people care about and B. Has a lot of canon races that people wouldn’t want to disrupt.

Basically, in summary, I think anyone can play any role as long as they do the character well, regardless of any group they may belong to, whether I agree with their views or not. If they can act and at least look fairly like the character (I don't give a crap about looking exactly like the character. Leah is Annabeth Chase, whether you like it or not), they can rusting well play the character.

Somebody had to say it thank you. The issue with race in media is that some group of people is going to get mad no matter what you do. For the Cosmere in specific it’s hard because well there really aren’t a whole lot of white people on some of these worlds particularly Roshar. Overall I think it’s something people get way too worked up about (just look at the fit the Percy Jackson fandom had or what Disney got after the Little Mermaid and now Snow White). Overall I would hate for this to be the reason an adaptation fails. Maybe my thoughts came out a little jumbled but yeah that’s it.

I mean Elantris sequel is coming out soon.

And Elantris certainly hasn’t been ignored in the meantime. We’ve got short stories and characters who appeared in other Cosmere works. I mean its not the same but it’s more than Rithmatist and Warbreaker have. Poor Warbreaker didn’t even get an essay or short story in Arcanum Unbounded.

Not to mention Tress mentioning "Death with spikes in his eyes

There’s been some discussion of how ironeyes became a symbol on other worlds but I just realized it’s probably the Iriali. We already figured they likely went to Scadrial next so when they later moved to Lumar years later it makes sense certain cultural things would be influenced. I dunno if that’s been thought of before.

  14. Whether or not Kelsier’s sacrifice was right is interesting. Clearly the ends justified the means here it overall worked and let the Skaa rebel but could he have told the crew? I honestly think they might’ve been able to talk him out of it. It’s clear how much the crew means to them and they really did have influence over him in a lot of ways. It’s all speculation obviously but I think he made the right decision doing it the way he did. Overall is he a good person? Maybe not initially but by the end of the original trilogy he definitely grew in a lot of ways. He definitely could be a dangerous person for the future of the Cosmere though. His goal is to protect Scadrial no matter what but it seems Scadrial is an aggressor in space age Cosmere. Will he defend his planet even if it doesn’t deserve it is a question that I am excited to see the answer to moving into eras 3 and 4.

I think the Well of Ascension is the worst Mistborn book. Vin & Elend are the least interesting characters and the whole book all they do is refuse to think their worthy of each other. All the plots and adventures of the first book felt a lot more real.

Also, I love Steris's character, shes awesome

On a different note, I dislike the Cytoverse. Not only is it distracting from books I actually want, but I also dislike Spensa. She has this amazing cast of much more interesting side characters in each book that i want to see more of, but the next book gets rid of all of them and we get a new cast! I haven't read Defiant yet, but Spensa frustrates me to no end, And I just want a Rithmatist sequel

I don’t think those are particularly unpopular opinions apart from the cytoverse one. WoA is definitely well known to be the weakest of the original trilogy at least just because of its slower pacing. And everyone loves Steris. As for the Cytoverse there’s so much there I loved and some I didn’t. Have you read the Skyward Flight Novellas. I started them recently doing my reread before starting Defiant and its changed my opinion on the series as a whole since it gives a lot of screen time to the overlooked side cast which you’d probably like especially if you disliked Cytonic like I did.

Why would Kelsier not want the memory of him helping the Southerners to get out?

To answer this one I think it’s less the memory of him helping the Southerners and more he didn’t want the fact that he was still alive and influencing Scadrial to get out. Kelsier is revered as a deity but the Ghostbloods aren’t exactly well known and I don’t think that Scadrial’s government would be particularly trusting of the Ghostbloods. I suppose that for the specific “helping the southerners” memory would also make the government more distrusting of the Ghostbloods if it appears that they are “taking a side” so to speak in the already tense political situation with the Malwish.

There's one thing that's really stuck with me about Kelsier right from the start. He always talked up the importance of his crew and working together and all that stuff, but when it came down to his final plan in The Final Empire to get himself killed and then stage his resurection, he worked alone (except for OreSeur, who was integral to the plan). So that's who I think he is at heart: someone who is only going to trust himself when the chips are really down. Nothing I've seen of him since has changed that opinion that I've had from the start.

This is interesting to me because I think if anything Kell’s actions perhaps show that he trusts his crew more than anything. While yes he knew what had to be done and didn’t trust his crew not to stop him I think he showed greater faith in them by trusting them to pick up the pieces after his death. He had enough trust that his work would be carried on and I think that perhaps paints the opposite picture of him.

  18. To everyone suggesting child champions does it not have to be a willing champion? I mean I get where the theory comes from but I feel like it’s relatively unlikely that could happen easily. Plus we’ve already gotten a glimpse of the champion having 9 surges in Oathbringer so that lends further credibility to it being something else. As for who I suppose Moash is possible but the Gavilar theory is my personal favorite.
