“They will be Everything," Cormic had announced. But what did that mean? Teon stood over the pulpit with the mid day sun on his back, as the unsubtle tang of gizzards rose from the hard stone. "You two will live until the end of the gods," The man had said. I am a protector. High Priest Jenox pressed his notched staff into the ichourus goo that burst from the exposed bladder and swung the staff beside him, sending the stinking droplets to the earth. "Teon," he said. "Tell me what this would read if Kallis was reigning." The boy carefully stepped around the grey splatter and sang the prayer for clarity. He made three circuits of the pattern then turned back and repeated the process in reverse. When he returned to the alter he replied to his teacher, "the markings would tell us that there will be unusually high tides to the east. There would also be heavy rain along that coast line, and land slides would be a great risk." Jenox nodded. "And what would that mean?" Teon thought for a moment. "It would mean that there would be an increase in oppourtunities for the fishing tribes to gather much higher quantities of food, and the kelp would grow thicker, giving them warmer clothes for the winter. But it would not be without cost, as the unsteady surface would lead to many drownings and broken bones. But I fear," Teon broke off for a moment. "What do you fear Teon?" "I fear that the shore tribes' hubris will make them ignore the danger, as the temptation for growth and increased catches would overshadow their caution." Jenox put his hand consolingly on his young pupils shoulder. "What reason do you have to think that they will act in such a way? You have not traded or feasted with them, and an envoy has not come to us in many a year." "I think it will happen," Teon responded "because the pattern fell too close to your feet, and more than twelve pieces of gravel were hit, which rules out successful hunting. And," Teon looked bashfully to the ground. "What is it?" "And, I may have overheard a New Operative talking about the king of the shore tribe selling all of the kelp to their inland neighbours, when we were about to go through a sudden cold this month, and that he has been seen drinking his weight in wine each night." Jenox laughed heartily. "Then I see your training in all fields is going well. It brings me great pride to be your tutor," Jenox said. Your skills are higher than even the third born students.

I like the way you are thinking and working around a central theme, but there has already been someone who wanted to write a disease tribe. So definitely go with the first two characters, and the we will see who contributes. If they don't end up using that tribe then you can, and I'll let you know if that happens. I also like the cultural elements of your creations, so if you wanted to use all those characters but in a different tribe then please do. I would recommend reading back on the old posts in this discussion thread so there is no accidental overlap. But do go ahead and do a post for your first two characters! Looking forward to it

Thanks for trying to work within the world, and it's nice to know that there will be someone contributing regularly. Looking forward to hearing what you some up with! Also you are right about there having to be a common goal, I think that this is the point in game when the three alliances would be made so there is no reason other alliances cant also come into being.

Klixoae gathered the bones from the circle around him. As Elder Councilman it was his duty to say the rights when a great beast had finished its journey into the Otherworld and its bones collected for ground meal and structural building. The death of this creature was a great loss the Feracusians, and they wept openly at Klixoae's ululating song. Glanad, as the creature had been called, was the oldest, and largest of the male Baluch, and he and his herd had wandered the Southern Plains of Amanor for a hundred and twelve years. He had protected the Phororhacus for the tribe, and had kept the fearsome Sabres at bay. To say little the honour shared by Baluch and Makar, the defender who gave his life to join Baluch in battle and peace permanently. The pair had now truly been released, and reincarnation could begin. A breeze blew through the canopied branches of the airing space and shook the thin woven fabrics which covered the faces of everyone present. It gained in intensity then calmed, and with it came the cry of the Bull horn, slow and long, then fast and unrelenting like the pounding hooves of a raging stampede. Seemingly endless, and as frenzied as the larger creatures, trying to barge a path through the thick throng of a panicked rampage. It was the horn of oncoming besiegers, come to steal the free animals and the bountiful harvest of rice and wheat. "Find the other Elders," Klixoae shouted. "Flank the sides and rig the netting. Memex, grab the Younglings and Firstborns and hide them beneath the nesting grounds. Kantar," the woman ran forward. "I want you to lead the third born, ask the Blue Winged Spitters if they will aid us. We need to know how many have come this time." Kantar growled in obedience and excitement, eager for her first true connection.

It can be difficult for some people to post regularly, has anyone tried to get into contact with him? It may be the case that you could write your next scene and then the other writers just work around your progress. I am happy to wait, but I don't want this game to die either (though I know that I also need to more effort in) so maybe you could have a secondary, minor character until we know what is going on?

Well as there are few people left in your tribe, you could do your first post as one of your characters walking around internally monologueing about the state of things. Maybe thinking about their role in society. You could have your character bump into a love interest or a rival or even be sent out on a scouting or gathering mission. You could write about a worship scene or town council meeting? The first post is usually about establishing the way your character thinks and behaves around others. So if you did not plan on having a character who thinks about things a lot, then you could focus more on their conversations with others or the things the character is doing. For example, if you wanted to show that your character was a bit of a but hole you could write a short segment into your scene where the character sees someone in trouble or struggling with something and then just keep walking instead of helping,or by laughing when someone trips over or something. Hope that helps. Edgedancer, on 26 Jan 2015 - 6:03 PM, said: I gathered that already, what I was more interested in is if Hech could keep the Chiskreven wind manipulation. Sorry, I had to work. He would keep it, yes. The Gods don't usually bother with stripping away an individuals power. I will try to get up another post soon. I will put some action in there to hopefully spike some interest.

What did you have in mind? Yes they re-incarnate, and I would be lenient with how considering they are not human.

I always imagined it as being because killing off another tribe means that there is less competition on land for resources and so less time can be spent hunting and gathering, with more time spent in worship with their God who may reveal new techniques and also more time on breeding much healthier and better fed babies - who themselves multiply over time and can contribute to the good of the tribe. This increases their magical power because the more people of that God's bloodline that exist, and worship that God, the stronger that God is. There is no particular reason that killing off a similar tribe to yours would be of any extra benefit other than the geographical likely hood of a similar tribe to you living next door. Therefore, increases in power happen over generations, if a continual effort is made to wither breed more or kill others more, so that then you can breed. BUT there is also no reason that a tribe might not think that killing off similar powers would gain better control of their own, and you are welcome to use this as a plot point but it would be essential for this plot to work that the God was never asked about how they gain powers or that the worshipper who asks then lies to all other tribe members about it for whatever political reason... They could also have a particularly selfish God who doesn't want to part with too much information. Suggestion: we could all play the game at this current time, and then maybe in a month or so we could do a forward time skip and play from there... Seeing as the characters have multiple lives this shouldn't be an issue with losing yours, and it could show us how time changes abilities.

They can appear as an avatar and can choose whatever form they like, but they would not show themselves in this way very often, they would appear more commonly as just a voice outloud or in an individuals head. It depends on your tribes culture.

It is a slight alteration on (what google translate tells me) the Greek for "to know" . I have posted the first post. Its pretty short but I think it shows the style that I want to write the game in, and also gives you a chance to introduce your character before too much happens. The game thread is just "Paidiá - Game"... Have fun everyone!

The stars of caution shone from the red belt of Paeus and the moons of the giant Qintarxes were aligned asymmetrically. It had not rained in three weeks and smoke drifted carelessly day and night from the distant shore to the East. The New Operatives had been gathering with the elders during all eight phases of the moon and the Revered Mother had requested that only the Waxing Born men would visit her that week. As a first born, Teon's understanding of these events was confused and frightened. But his sister Euthalia, third born and exalted chanter was a comfort to him as they walked naked in silence, collecting the buds from the Dark Flower of May and painting the sap onto their bodies and bald heads as they went. At the end of the night, they would be presented to the tribe as the night they were born. Side by side and marked with red, foretelling of the great stampede which would have destroyed the sacred font. The pair had been treated with due respect for their 168 moons and their presentation tonight would be what they had been told by their mother as a most honourable occasion, though no more information was shared. This unsettled Teon more that his limited ability to read the skies and his schooling through entrails divination combined. But Euthalia marched on, pausing every seventh step to pinch the earth and grind it into the sap bowl, seeming content and proud. Teon swallowed nervously and followed along, it may be the only night in the year that does not hold more than one birthnight celebration, he thought, but never has a 168th moon been surrounded in so much secrecy.

The chiskreven forest is still on the natural formation, just above where the river meets the ocean in the lower half of the map, in the territory marked "forrested canyons". It doesn't look like a lot of space but the entire map is pretty massive. It would take months to travel on foot from the eastern bank of the river at the mouth of the mountains to reach the eastern ocean shore. That's exactly right. The Imfu are on the North East side of the mountains, the NaXéreteus are beneath the mountains, to the South East. The NaXéreteus used to monitor the mountain pass just below where the Imfu reside so yes there is a huge amount of animosity, and both tribes know a lot about each other.

I am about to put up the first post, describing it. They once lived on the mountain tops by the Nanaket mountain pass by the ocean, but foresaw that the Pathona would release their plagues carelessly and so they moved, gradually and not without combat to the central grass lands on the eastern side of the river Eubos. Here they have clear visions of the night skies, though the view is hindered partially by the (now known as Pathogenia) mountains to the north. Being on low ground has hindered their defensive capabilities significantly, though major attacks have thus far been avoided.

Ok, I have next to zero drawing abilities, so I will attempt to kind of draw it but with words. I'll just do it and then we will see if it makes sense. Game Island - Nua (and for you who don't know how scrubland and desert can end in a beach, I encourage you to Google any picture of Australia haha. No but seriously, google the Coorong. - so many boring school trips) Also, areas written in bold are raised and sections where there is one line of something eg. mountains, surrounded by lines of something else, obviously there is some blending going on. This is really only a kind of blue print. My knowledge of geography is worse than my drawing skills so if something doesnt make sense, or you thought it would look different Please make changes and suggestions. I also found a cool website that can give some descriptions of biomes for reference. http://www.worldbiomes.com/ Thick forests are rainforests in appearance and nature, though size wise they are scaled up to match the mega flora and fauna description of the planet. Hey everyone, it was pretty much decided today that while there are 3 continents, everyone in the game so far is on one of them. This just means that everyone has a chance at fighting everyone else, but that if you want to use your powers/ other non powers skills to travel and explore the other continents you can do that on your own initiative and we will get the most variety. As far as information on the Gods goes, I think everyone has done an incredible job coming up with what they have about them and so the God's development will be more up to you, the players. This is again for variety, but also because the focus of the work I have done so far on the novels is for the time after all this and there are massive changes. So information on the Gods wasn't yet necessary for me to create. In any case, Voidus and I are in agreement that it would serve the game better if we were to all just start, and if there is anything that needs clarification, this is the thread for it. SO here goes! Have fun everyone, your tribe can go in whatever direction you want. My characters: Teon and Euthalia, Siblings of NaXéreteus the tribe of the moon God, NaXéret. (Info to be revealed in game, and sort of as we go along or I guess if requested) Klixoae, Elder councilman of the Animal tribe (Feracusian's) who worship the Animal God Feracus. Feracus had a significant hand in the creation of animals on Paidiá and as such wanted his people to treat them in on an equal level to how the Feracusian's treated each other. So, the culture of the Feracusions is heavily revolving around animals in a shepherding and sheltering fashion. This is for reasons already explained, but also because their power set, the (limited) control of animal behaviour works through the temporary sacrifice of the casters consciousness. The casters soul can be temporarily split and sent into the mind of an animal. There are therefore not priests in this tribe, but those who have spent more time with the animals over their consecutive lives have better control. They are entirely vegetarian, using several creatures to help cultivate their rice fields and cultivated fruits and vegetables. Their military focus and defensive focus is on traps, and ranged weapons as they are not particularly organised or strong close range. Any more questions, please do ask! Also, any battle scenes that do not involve other players you can do whatever you want in, we do after-all have to destroy quite a few of them. For battles with other players, collaborations is strongly encouraged.

7 thumbs up my friend! Getting carried away can be where the best fantasy literature begins . I would go with Wind manipulation because the Air God is one who survives and can control elements in the atmosphere - being able to control fire byproxy, ie. get rid of oxygen and suffocating the fire or changing the elements so to enrage fire -, so those two could live close to each other and work together. (Which could also be interesting because of the forest being the Chskreven's home. I imagine the forest being on the top of a natural structure like this: And a human tribe living in the valley. Wind God (I liked your name for it a lot) could be a subset of Air God that was created when some nearby tribes died out. So the creatures existed before then, but gained magical powers and increased intelligence after then. You can decide how this effects their surroundings and interactions with people. Also, I would love to play one if you didn't want to control them all as a group. scouting is highly possible, as some larger creatures can be tamed, water currents can be created to carry people quickly through water, plant life can be manipulated to grow solitary trees which tower above others and so on. The position of everyone can be worked out tonight or tomorrow morning (Australia time) between me and Voidus if everybody is ok with that. It will take quite a bit of thought. End "game" the moon tribe could know everything about every one's plans, but at this point when we are playing, they do rely on information gathered about the people they are investigating before they can make plans or divine meaning.. this only limits them from knowing everything because the tribe does not contain enough people to go out and scout everywhere while also maintaining the health and well being of other tribe members. This is something I want players to keep in mind: Tribes are still limited to at most 250 people, many of whom are old, children or sick people with broken legs or burns or whatever. So when you are thinking about how your character is awesome, don't forget that you can't just call in the whole tribe to help out with a mega spell - because they would not have a functioning society if they did and not every one in the tribe can access the same amount of power. For example, a woman/ man in their 40's this life may have only reached 5 years old in their last and only other life due to an accident and so they would (if they lived in the Flora tribe - by the way, shotgun) only be able to encourage their crops to produce 20% better or grow their houses from vines as they willed it. But that person would not be able to ensnare a moving person with a flailing knife in the very same vines because it would require a much finer understanding of how to control the spirit in the plant, which can only really be achieved by that tribe's priests and 4th+ generationers. Range is the primary issue with limitation to their powers at this point. I would set it to 20 meters or so for the strongest members, and in short bursts (I'm thinking of fire tribe here) and about an hour being the amount of time such an attack could be kept up by one person. I hope this encourages creativity with attacks rather than frustration . For the moon tribe, this would mean that they could still divine what another tribe was going to do, but only see a few days into the future, and there are several interpretations of the information rather than just one definite answer and it would take all the effort of all the priests condensed into a day, followed by a few days of inaction of the weaker 3rd lower generational priests and those who did the most work. I agree with Voidus that there should be some other goal beside dominance. It is not in cannon or whatever but for the purposes of the game it might be fun. I really like the name of the Sun God you have come up with. Heat resistance, Fusion Control and Heat control are all approved. Also I think that actual contact with the caster is required for all transformations. Really great limitations to Fusion Control, they are similar to what I had in mind. Side note to all: any one in any tribe can become a priest, as there is no elitism. All that "being a priest" means, is that that person has dedicated their life to study and prayer aka actual communion with their God and can harness that Gods powers better. Fauna wise, in the desert, insects and the usual desert critters are the norm, burrowing in sand and hiding in desert plant and grass life. Rivers contain creatures more like eels and crabs than fish so that in particularly dry seasons they too can burrow in the mud. You may want to look into having some of your tribes people farming these creatures in undercover ponds they have protected with magic. Just a thought. Was this scenery what you had in mind or is it just me: But with the occasional tiny stream or pool? The Moon God. I will have a think today about that sort of detail and make a huge post with other important world information. Hopefully we can start tomorrow or I will start tonight, and then everyone can join in when they are ready. So if anyone is posting in the questions thread today, think of as many questions as you can even if you think they are silly or might have already been answered. If you still don't understand something then I haven't explained it properly. Maybe also post with a suggestion of general topics you want more information on. Other than that, absolutely amazing work everyone! I am so chuffed.

I'm not sure, but I think it will be within the next day or so. People can join after we start. Voidus has summed up the powersets, and I had not written up the personalities of the Gods themselves yet, but both would value boldness, confidence and aggression in their people. You can make up whatever power you want for these tribes, so long as they aren't op. Great job every one with coming up with such cool ideas!

That sounds great, and it really works that their mountain things were destroyed because there are at this point in game only a hundred or so people per tribe, and it would have taken everyone to build that structure as well as defend it, but they still needed food so it makes sense that they are pretty weak. Anyone who does not have powers (and even us on earth) can manipulate others into saying what we want them to say, and signing things we don't understand everything about. So an individual in game at this point would - lets say if they were the priest/shaman or whatever -have the strength to prevent someone from acting on something they agreed they would not do. For example, person a gets through whatever means, person B to agree to never intentionally harm person C. Person B would be physically incapable of hurting person C themselves, as well as giving information to others which might lead to person C being hurt and so on. I would set a 3 person limit to the number of individual contracts for the strongest person if the contract is to last until the caster's death, or 6 to 10 if the contract is much simpler than the one in the example and is to last for a few months. Casters can also join together in prayer/ worship and ask for special once off power - and it might be granted (pm me and I'll let you know haha). I like it see discussion above for approximate power limitations.
-
Yes, BUT these objects can only be made by the strongest priests, who ask their God to imbibe the thing with power. It costs a lot of spiritual energy so the priest would be out of action for a while, relative to the import of the contract ie. the number of people it effects or the amount of time it covers. More priests would be needed to request larger artifacts.

Names would depend on your tribe so it is pretty much up to you. However, In the midpoint books (this game is in prequel time.. I'm aiming high haha) the names are Greek sounding but that is thousands of years after the events in this game. Take from that what you will, be it that maybe Bob might be a little strange, but not unheard of, Bobe might sound like it fits better. The point is more that if you are going to call your character Joe, everyone else's name in your tribe shout fit around the sound or type of name like Joe. In world everyone speaks the same language, but they each have very different cultures (which you can make up, complete freedom there)

In book, they are just animals, but I think it works logically in this game world that they could also worship a specific god and all that jazz, only they would survive if their God died because they were not made to represent their God, they were just made. But lets just say they were made to be quite intelligent.

Trickery, sabotage and prediction are all things the moon priests can do because astrology is real in world and so with correct starting information, they could know what was going on at all times. However it is limited to only a tribe or two at a time for the beginning stage, and is the intelligence gathered was wrong, so too will be the predictions. I like the moon priests the best too So yes, tricking a tribe to attack another is well within any characters rights (well for us) but the moon priests would have much better ability at doing so.
