  1. "Those who have lived in this wood possess some abilities I would consider to be... unnatural." The wizard pets the bird in an attempt to comfort it.
  2. "I am Elan, Eos. It is very nice meeting you." "It would be my pleasure." The wizard ponders these words for a moment. "Hmm... fascinating... I see..."
  3. The wizard's face darkens. "I do." He lowers his hand. "What is your name?" "Magic is imbued in the very fibers of this world. The fibers of your being, your sinews. And the words of these trees are filled with magic that could fog even the sharpest of minds."
  4. "A friendly dragon, how interesting..." The wizard muses. "Very very fascinating..." Elan smiles. "You're a very good Phoenix." "Carelessness is easy to come by when magic muddles the mind." The wizard notes. "Wisps and words have equal power to lead one astray."
  5. The Great Wizard gently strokes the back of Eos' head. "I had a bird very much like you, once."
  6. Elan taps the leather-covered shoulder of his robe. "You can perch here, young phoenix." He says softly to the bird. "You may not be, but the wisps did not come here of their own accord. These woods are called babbling for a reason."
  7. "I am here for a rare plant for a spell I'm working on. It can only be found in the heart of the woods." The wizard gestures with his staff to the shadowed path ahead. "I close my ears because the trees words are dangerous. Recall that folly is often masked under the guise of wisdom." The wizard watches the chaos with a small amount of judgement. He has more important things to do, and continues to walk down the path.
  8. "Ah." The wizard says, looking Callum up and down. "You were the one following me, were you not? Those eyes in the brush?"
  9. The wizard nods. "The next six were discovered by my apprentice. Truthfully, they stand as important adages to the twelve." He nods. "The royal arch mage? He is quite powerful, yes, but his counterings are not my equal." "Help would be much appreciated."
  10. The wizard looks at her. "The voices of the trees. These are the Babbling Woods. Wanderers who listen never return." He said. "It would only be a matter of time until I too would fall away into the marshes if I listened." He looks out at the bursts of lights, the will o' the wisps. "Things here are more dangerous than they seem..."
  11. Gem took it, running his finger along the engraving. "Thank you."
  12. "I am the Great Wizard. I am equipped to counter your counterings. I am trained in the most ancient and primitives forms of magick. I discovered the twelve prime laws of sorcery. My powers are not those that you would wish to tamper against. They would not be trod underfoot when matched against tools and armour, no matter how well designed." The wizard thought for a moment, then sat and set a rune of silence in the ground so he could remove the cotton from his ears. "The sorceress..." he said pensively. "We did deal with that, once... before the schism... now we hide away in towers, working only for ourselves..." something in his eyes, deep within his eyes, showed a longing for something that hadn't been for an age. "I will join you." He said softly. "But I must complete this first."
  13. "A wizard's business is his, and his alone. You may try to stop me, but I would not recommend it."
  14. The wizard, with cotton in his ears, only hears the magebreaker's muffled voice. He doesn't take it out—not with the trees so active... so agitated. He turns to face him. "I am on an errand and will not be delayed." he says. His voice is deep and old, like an ancient oak.
  15. Elan nods at the girl with the strange eyes, and glances for a half second at the magebreaker. A barrow-wight? In the babbling woods? The Great Wizard continues to ponder such a strange idea as he places the cotton back in his ears and breaks the rune. The whispers of the trees return, calling to him to come to the marshes. The cotton blocks out the voices, however. He walks away from the two, delving deeper into the woods. Not much farther now.
  16. “I seek a rare plant found at the heart of this forest.” The wizard answered. “Why do you follow me.” The wizard glances at the light through the side of his eye. What a strange wisp. The wizard knew the eyes were still following him. The person he had just met was not their owner. Still, he waited.
  17. The Great Wizard continued forwards, knowing that something was following. He glanced at his tome one last time, closed it, and tucked it away in his cloak, putting both hands on his staff. He scratched a rune on the ground beneath his feet using the end of his staff, and his ears popped as the whispers of the trees went quiet. He gingerly removed the cotton from his ears and turned around to face what was behind him.
  18. Elan could feel his staff vibrating. Something living was nearby, but he couldn't be sure what. He kept on his walk. It was dangerous to stop without purpose in the Babbling Woods. The wisps, the nymphs, the trees—very few things worked for one's good here. The wizard looked around on his side. He thought he saw something in the underbrush. A pair of eyes, reflecting bursts of light from the will-o'-the wisps. Not a bother, and not a danger. At least, not yet... He moved his eyes forwards, pretending not to have seen anything as he delved deeper into the woods, closer and closer to its heart.
  19. Gem sat there, eyes closed, breathing quietly. they had been through a lot theyd make it through this
  20. “Mom, I love you.” Gem said, laying his head on her shoulder.
