I like the idea that Hoid was never really in any danger from the machine, he would have been strong enough or different enough to easily shrug it off....but his automatic defenses snapped into place and froze him anyway, because they were set too sensitively. Just the idea that he accidentally put himself in the mess is really funny to me.
