He held her close to him, stroking her hair.

“I hope it does, but…you might need to try to relax first.”

“Good, do you want to try to sleep again?”

He kissed her back. “Are you doing ok now?”

“Always.”

“So I’ll be awake when you need me.”

“Not any more than you do.”

“Don’t be sorry, I’m glad I could be awake for you.”

He smiled gently at her. “I love you Rex.”

Daniel ran a hand through her hair, then down her back. “He’s not here anymore, you’re safe now.”

He pulled her tight. “Do you want to talk about it?”

He let her stay like that, trying to comfort her. “Another nightmare?” he asked gently.

He held her, pulling her to his chest. “You’re safe here.”

Daniel opened his eyes, suddenly growing alert. He felt Rex shaking next to him. “Rex,” he whispered, shaking her gently.

He closed his eyes too, falling into a dreamless sleep.

“Good, let’s try to sleep now.”

He wrapped an arm around her. “I am.”

“Sure.”
