He held her tight to him, breaking the kiss. “What is it? What’s wrong?”

He opened his eyes, kissing her back, one hand on her cheek, rubbing it with his thumb.

“As long as you’re here,” he said, closing his eyes.

“That we be here together, either both of us asleep or both of us awake.”

“That will help me go to sleep, but when I’m asleep…that’s wasted time where I can’t see you, can’t feel you next to me.”

“I might…but I’d rather be awake. With you.”

He closed his eyes, relaxing at her touch.
