“In his palace,” said one of the other women. The first woman who had spoken put a protective arm around her. When they shifted, Wyvel recognized the first as the king’s daughter, and this one as one of the girls who had been taken from the square at an assembly.
“We know it sounds ludicrous,” the woman said, “so there’s no blame in your being skeptical.”
The man looked at her, his brow furrowed. “Was there something else?”
The man opened his mouth, but one of the women spoke before he could. “There were certain people that he wanted to remember the past. It would torture them, knowing what had been as opposed to what he made. One of those was the king.”
