  1. She made the zippered lips sign.
  2. “I don’t know that she should.” She winked.
  3. She set her sights to a man on the edge of the camp. She pulled back her bowstring, aimed, and let it fly. It hit his neck. As he fell, another pierced his eye and went into his brain.
  4. “So what do you-“ ”Kio, is something going on?” He sat up straight (he’d been leaning toward Gem). “Uh, no, ma’am. I was just, uh… asking him if he needed help with the math.” ”Well, pay attention yourself. It’s fine to help others, but you need to listen during the lesson.” ”Right. Sorry.”
  5. “If you want, you can come check it out, at least see what ways you can comfortably help in.”
  6. The boy smiled. “Hi!” he whispered. “I’m Kio!”
  7. Lusha woke silently. She put on her quiver, knocked an arrow, and snuck out of her tent. She used her vines to get into a tree for a vantage point.

  9. “You don’t have to fight, Sharp. We still don’t fully know what we’re dealing with.”
  10. Meron looked at his big sister. She rubbed Lily’s head as she thought, then kissed her forehead. “Be good, okay?” Lily nodded. “You’re actually going to help?” ”I’ve been making a mistake for quite a while. I’m going to try to start making up for it.”
  11. Skysong’s mouth tightened, but she said nothing about it as she started her lesson. Aventine squatted next to him. “You okay?”
  12. Hiiiiii General Kenobi! You are a bold one
  13. “Anywhere you find a seat is fine, dear.” The woman walked to the front of the room.
  14. Aventine squeezed his shoulder. "Everyone, this is Gemini." There was a clamor of noise as everyone tried to introduce themselves to him at the same time.
  15. "Please, come in." She stepped to the side, letting them into the classroom. Wooden desks sat with cushioned chairs, most of them full.
