  1. After a while, the lesson ended. “Alright, everyone get lunch and be back in an hour.” Most of the students rose and walked out of the classroom. The clique eyed Gem and giggled again as they left.
  2. The lesson continued. Kio was actually paying attention now.
  3. “Good. To calculate…” She continued, and the girls kept snickering.
  4. She heard his sincerity. Slowly, she reached and put a hand on his shoulder. It felt weird.
  5. She breathed in. It was intimidating, but beautiful all the same.
  6. A group of girls -picture the stereotypical popular group - snickered at his answer. Skysong sighed. “Please pay attention. The question was, if the tree is twenty feet tall and the shadow is thirty feet long, how far is the top of the tree from the tip of the shadow, and what trigonometry ratio should we use to get our answer?”
  7. She overheard them. She knew this wasn’t a good situation. She fully encased herself in thick vines. What could she do? Wait- she’d seen that halfling from the other tree… Nera, wasn’t it? ~~ A small vine emerged at Nera’s feet.
  8. She grunted as a thornless vine wrapped around her waist and secured her to the tree. Another wrapped around her bow.
  9. “In your dreams,” she growled. She stomped on the woman’s fingers and leapt from the tree. She avoided the group at the trunk, ran a decent ways, and pulled herself into another tree. The tree’s nymph emerged and started yelling at her. “I know! I’m sorry! I’ll make it up to you when I’m done with this!” The nymph turned, seeing the group, then sighed and waved it off. “Thank you, sister.” The nymph melted back into her tree.
  10. Marewill nodded. “Alright, then.” ”I can help!” Lily volunteered. “No, you need to stay here.” ”I’m not a little kid anymore!” ”I know, but you’re still too young for this.” Lily pouted.
  11. She whispered the same curse. At the base of the tree, spiky vines began to grow. One reached up, wrapping around the survivor’s ankle, and threw him across the clearing.
  12. “What do you think?” There was a drawing on the board of a tree casting a shadow on the ground.
  13. Meron looked between the two of them confused. “Look, I don’t know what’s going on here, but it’ll be okay, Lee.”
