  1. "What I was going to say is that we should refocus on the mission instead of resorting to violence over a petty argument."
  2. Variance stepped between them. "No. you-" Variance, unaffected by the gust, caught him. Strohger felt a push back as he passed partially through Variance's arm, the fell to the ground. @Channelknight Fadran @Aeoliae
  3. Variance said nothing, but he took out the knife.
  4. "I will stab you with the Perception knife again," Variance stated calmly.
  5. "That's why I said I could probably just make the ship invisible on all spectrums. It would be difficult, but I think I could manage it. Anyway, the point here isn't to get a surefire plan. We already know that there will be a good chance of getting detected somehow during this whole operation. I'm just trying to do what I can."
  6. "What do you mean? If there is not light coming from this ship, it cannot possibly be read as a warm object across the vacuum of space."
  7. "...Heat signals are infrared light." "Allera, if you have an objection, you can voice it. This is your ship."
  8. "They can't track anything if they can't receive signals through space, so that shouldn't matter if we can block that light from escaping. I guess it could be better just to make it entirely invisible, since they could probably still see us otherwise. And then they'd have to wonder why there's a ship emitting no signals. That might be doable." Variance caught the motion. "What's wrong?" he asked, picking up on something he didn't quite understand.
  9. "Most outward signals are just different wavelengths of light... Shim, could you obscure those without making the whole ship invisible?" @Nameless*
  10. "In that case, there's not much I can do. I'm pretty certain that I can't obscure every aspect of this ship for enough time for it to matter."
  11. "So do you happen to know?"
  12. @Channelknight Fadran
  13. "Okay. Do you have any idea what the scanners measure or detect?"
  14. "So, you'd rather I just leave it be?"
  15. "I didn't exactly know how your ship tech worked either. It's not about the mechanisms, just what is being observed and how I want it to be observed."
  16. "We're taking one of their ships?" Variance stopped changing his hair, letting it settle back to how it had been. "And I asked that because there might be something I can do about it. It depends on how many things I'll have to change."
  17. Variance idly shifted his hair through various colors. None were exceedingly vibrant; they all seemed like they could have plausibly been achieved with dye.
  18. "Are we going to be at risk of being seen?"
  19. "Well... So far as I can tell. Not that I'm necessarily the best judge of that."
  20. "You're welcome. I'm afraid it's to taxing for it to be worth keeping up right now, however." Shim returned to normal. "We talked. I figured I'd give that a try. It seems that there is a bit more to my abilities than I am aware of."
  21. "Okay. One more thing." Variance looked at Shim intently for a moment. Then, a man replaced the spot where he had been.
  22. "Do your powers have any sort of combat application?"
  23. "There isn't too much to say. If Perception magic is practiced today as it was in my time, it probably seems pretty tame, not too useful. The access that a typical or even very gifted person has to Perception is too limited to do anything for very long, especially something complicated like a disguise or invisibility."
  24. "That depends on your definition, but you may consider me so. What were you going to ask?"
