    TAAron tried to look ashamed or embarrassed, concealing the panic. Rue, they're using magic to manipulate your emotions. And you can't lie to them, so we need to get out of here.

    TAAron's hands clenched as he listened, and the glow rose around him, subtle. He found himself speaking directly into Rue's mind. Say you were just moved in from a plantation.

    TAAron watched Rue go with trepidation. He realized now that he had been afforded a certain level of comfort here by his knowledge of this world. He began to feel that slip away.

    "They could be talking about other worlds in the Cosmere, but... It's definitely a strange coincidence that we're here. And if they plan to make a public display of this, it's nothing like what is supposed to happen, according to the books. Something is wrong here."

    The cave could be called "The Well." Though maybe it doesn't have to be mists. Maybe it could be a noise that people think drives people insane but that's actually just the sound the "spren" make.

    Okay, what about the protagonist lets them survive? Could there be a group of runners in this society specifically trained to get through the mists fast?

    Could also have things be built and magic be fueled by human souls, so people who are deemed unworthy of life get consumed for greater prosperity.
