  1. Had to vote Mistborn because of all of the crazy possibilities... If I really sat down and thought about it, there is probably a "power" in other random video games that could crudely correlate to those of the allomantic metals... Copper and Bronze could be set up like the "detective mode" in the Batman: Arkham games (basically hit a button to look through a system that highlights different interactive characters/objects that are in your vicinity in different colors ie. red=bad:blue=good... you get the idea)... Pewter could basically be a mellowed out, extended version of getting a star in Mario Bros... Steel and Iron could be almost just like a grappeling hook or other device (I just played Batman so I'm thinking like that again(I know, I'm a dork))that pops up on all sorts of metal things and just needs a button prompt... Agree with most who said that brass/zinc would have to be more of a tool for conversation Atium is like Matrix mode... I could see some promise for Stormlight if it was set up in a full on battle mode (like you're a general/god's eye-view) and maybe also letting jump into one on one combat as your Shardbearer... Could start battling in the border disputes, then promoted to the taking of gemhearts, and then who knows... Could have lots of interesting side stories to delve into, now that I think about it, maybe it would be a bit much, but still has a lot of promise imo
  2. Wow... haven't been able to check out or see what the death matches are... But am not surprised to see someone best Logan, but find it hard to believe anyone can take the Bloody Nine That's a pretty tough matchup for the first round...
  3. Nice to meet the lot of you! To make it easy you guys can just call me Peter. lol After the resounding recommendations for Elantris, I feel that it has to be the next on my list. I'm almost a third of the way through Hobb's Assassin's Apprentice (so far so good), so I'll check out Elantris in between the rest of the trilogy. Thanks for the warm welcome.
  4. I have green/hazel eyes, but am a big ol Polish dude, so can hold my liquor with the best of them. Am not sure if green/hazel is light or dark?
  5. In college I taught myself some chords and scales on the guitar and can still play some simple songs, I was shown a blues scale and like to play along to music every know and then still. I played the trumpet for at least a decade in my youth, I still remember how, but don't think the muscles in my lips would actually let me play without a couple months of practice.
  6. The First Law trilogy by Joe Abercrombie quickly became one of my favorites. It's dark and heady, and he has a excellent writing style and really good character development. The first book is called "The Blade Itself", and one of the main protagonists (Logan Ninefingers) is one of my favorite characters in fiction. The trilogy is great, and he wrote two stand-alones in the same 'world'... "Best Served Cold", was good but just got a little too depressing for me in the end... And "The Heroes" which was absolutely fantastic... I can't wait for his next book(s) to come out. I would recommend this to even people that don't dig on fantasy, but for fans of the genre, I think these are a must.
  7. Nice to meet you KChan. Sounds like you got a lot to do with what's going on here, awesome. My sister lent me the first book of Wheel of Time, but I just haven't been able to get into it yet. Sometimes it just takes me forever to get into a book I guess I'm just stubborn that way, but that is on "the list" so to speak. Elantris is another Sanderson standalone right? I make my way by his shelf at the library whenever I'm there, and usually grab anything by him I haven't read yet, if it's there. Maybe I'll put in a request for it, now that I think about it. Thanks for the suggestions
  8. hey folks. Ran across a couple of sites on the interwebs referencing this forum and have read some of Sanderson's stuff, so I thought I'd come check it out. A little about myself: I was born on a farm about an hour northeast of Warsaw, Poland in a town called Wolomin; immigrated to the US at a young age with my family and currently live in St. Paul MN. Other than reading I like to bowl, I love action movies, I really love to cook, and I really really love scotch and trying new 'craft' beers, lol. My user name is something I've used as an internet handle for years on many different sites. I've been a life long Grateful Dead fan, and if you use a little imagination and turn PV3HPV3P upside down, it spells "deadhead"! So it's not just an angry little jumble of letters and numbers!! I had never read a fantasy novel until my sister and brother in law forced GRRM's aSoIaF on me about 5 years ago, and I fell in love with the genre. As far as Sanderson goes, I've only read the Mistborn trilogy, Warbreaker, and Way of Kings; but have quickly become a big fan of his writing. Other authors I'm into: George RR Martin, Joe Abercrombie, Tom Clancy, Robert Ludlum, Lee Child, Carl Haisaan, and Mark Twain plus a ton I can't think of right now. I'm currently trying out Robin Hobb's "Assassin's Apprentice" (another suggestion from my brother in law, but am only about a hundred pages in, so I don't have much of an opinion yet. Although I like the idea of it being written in the first person.) And someone talked me into reading a David Morrell book (the guy who wrote Rambo: First Blood, ya I guess that was a book?) called "The Protector" that isn't quite grabbing me as of yet, but I'll muck through it. Next on my list is another random suggestion I got, a book called "Sisters Brothers" by Patrick DeWitt I honestly don't know what it's about and am just going off of a one sentence description that I heard "It has the tone of 'O Brother Where Art Thou' with the violence of No Country for Old Men. Sounded good to me! I didn't really start reading for enjoyment until after I graduated highschool (1999) so I've always felt I'm a little behind when it comes to knowing what I should read next, who's good, and often find myself wandering aimlessly through the library, bookstore, or kindle market. I am always looking for a good book to read, so please if anyone has any good ideas/suggestions they want to pass along, feel free. Oh, and as you can probably tell, I'm long winded and usually have horrible spelling/grammar, lol. See you around the boards
