  1. Though Brandon doesn't really care about pronunciations, he specified at a signing that Jasnah is pronounced like the Greek or Hebrew "J" as a "Y" sound. So: "YAHS-nah". Also, when he says it (transcribing interviews teaches you these things :P ) it's "KAL-uh-din", not Aladin with a K in front. And he says Szeth as "Szeth". Not sure how else to explain it. It starts with an "s" sound but turns to a harder "z" sound in that same syllable. None of this is earthshakingly crucial to know, but, hey! There you have it.

  2. Dear Esteemed Sir,

First of all, your avatar is awesome. Don Quixote? By Pablo Picasso? This, my friend, is a double Iberian win. (Sorry... I just came from Spanish. Can you tell? ;) ) So: welcome! You should come and edit the wiki. It's fun, promise! Also you should check out the theory threads. They're guaranteed mindblowing.

    Cordially yours,

    Chachel

  3. As a fellow ex-AP art student, I can commiserate with how cramming and painting go in a sentence together. Anyway, I also love art and reading (as do many of the other people here, I can attest).

As a wiki admin I feel that I should mention that the wiki needs some more love and attention (read: content) and also it would be really cool if you're into fan art at all, to contribute pictures to articles because most of them sorely need them.

    Welcome, welcome!

  4. Geist does sound really cool, and as a general rule I think borrowing from other languages to fill English's inadequacies is a good thing.

However, the problem with 'geist' is that the primary meaning understood in English is 'ghost', and that is not the meaning we want to convey. After all, Shardholders both corporeal and non-corporeal.

    Sorry, we're sticking with Shardholder.

  5. Hello darniil!

Welcome! Thank you for taking some Coppermind articles under your wing; I know a mindboggling about of work still exists to be done on it, but every edit helps. (Well, at least, your edits have been helpful so far. :) )

Anyway, feel free to PM me any questions about the wiki. And thank you so much for helping with the wiki!

  6. Hey, sorry, I've been out. Welcome to the wiki, FirstSelector! You've been doing wonderful, wonderful things with the projects you listed on your user page. Yeah, my life is a little crazy right now (but in a good way  ) but I do need to format the Brandonothology page:

That Brandonothology page desperately needs formatting. Sorry about that. For the purposes of citations, I want to split up each specific Q&A in there to their separate pages.

...and also I'm working on chapter summaries for Warbreaker and Way of Kings, as well as trying to flesh out the basic information in the Way of KIngs pages. So if you ever run out of projects (ha!) I'd be glad to point out a few dozen more. Anyhow. Thanks for all your edits, FirstSelector!

  7. Hahahahaha! I forgot about the old main page. Ah, and didn't there used to be an old "click here" redirect page to get anywhere, or am I making things up? I love the intro in Spanish. Who made it?

  8. 3: I think Kaladin's anger was fueled by the Lust or whatever Dalinar and everyone calls it. Either that or else a rage at the loss of his brother, brought to the surface by the death of the kid who reminded him of his brother.

I do agree that there's something odd about this shardbearer, but I'm more inclined to think it was one of the heralds than the shard himself/herself.

I agree that the mystery shardbearer could be a herald. It could also be one of the Ghostbloods, as Amaram speculates:

"'...why Thaidakar would risk this?' Amaram was saying, speaking in a soft voice. 'But who else would it be? The Ghostbloods grow more bold. We'll need to find out who he was. Do we know anything about him?'

'He was Veden, Brghtlord,' the stormwarden said. 'Nobody I recognize. But I will investigate.'" p. 701

(Minor note: it's called the Thrill, but lust pretty much describes it too.)

  9. Another thought, how does this line up with Dalinar's timeline? I haven't read the book since it was first released, so I am a bit rusty, but I thought Dalinar started having the visions about a year before the present action of the book, which would put these recordings prior to when the Almighty dies according to you.

According to the book, the visions began "a few months ago".

    Dalinar's timeline:

A few months into Kaladin's time as a bridgeman, i.e. after he gains the loyalty of the other bridgemen, Dalinar has his twelfth vision in ch. 19:

"Each of the visions was different. This would be the twelfth one he'd seen. Only twelve? he thought. It seemed like so many more, but this had only begun happening to him a few months ago." p. 295

    On "The Way of Kings":

"Were the words of this book the cause of his problems? The visions had started several months after he'd first listened to readings from it." p. 370

  10. I'm quite sure that the text says that those from Teod can become Elantrians when in the vicinity of Arelon, but that it doesn't happen in Teod. Perhaps it's a minimum triggered amount of Elantris sDNA (similar to the Mistborn mechanic for Allomancy) that is required for the Shaod to take hold? Interesting... I think I need to re-read Elantris again soon!

    Fell

I think it might be an sDNA case, or at least the people on Sel believe that it is. For example, when Raoden meets Galladon, he is surprised to meet a Dula Elantrian, but Galladon explains that most Dula are mixed race, with a lot of Arelish blood.

  11. Hi Luz! (You have now been conferred a nickname. Take it or leave it as you please.)

I'm excited to see you join us here! I heard some guy here named Chaos/Eric also loves math. You should talk to him about the Taylor Series or fun things like that. I'm no good for that type of discussion. But I am definitely game for any kind of Sanderson discussion, so you should pop on over to the forums and discuss Brandon-ey things. I think if you haven't read Warbreaker or Elantris, you probably shouldn't read the overall theories ones. Definitely check out the threads on Way of Kings theories and Mistborn stuff. Also, if you have a spare moment, contribute to the Coppermind Wiki! I promise it's fun!

  12. Ooh, these are good questions to think about. I think that you are correct in saying that this is why the Fjordell lands don't have the Shaod. Also, my guess is that Elantrians continue being Elantrians of weakened power (but not as weak as Reod levels of zombiehood), kind of like when Raoden teleports to Teod and can barely make a weak Aon Edo to defend himself from Dilaf.

  13. Great find! I was looking around chasmfiend and forgot that was just another name for really big greatshells so I wasn't searching for that keyword when I looked. Interesting that they only come from the dead bodies of greatshells...

Agreed. Great find! Thank you so much!!! :D

  14. Hm, yeah, gloryspren are different and not mysterious. It's good to see that there actually are spren mentioned alongside chasmfiends; it means the online references weren't COMPLETELY off-base. Just mostly off-base. Unless we can find a quote to strongly suggest the mystery spren exist, I'll delete all mention of them from the spren pages.

  15. CALLING ALL DETECTIVES!

On more than a couple places online, I've seen mysterious spren appearing around dead chasmfiends mentioned. However, after searching the book I cannot find it. Are these mystery spren ever mentioned or described? Or are people confusing shardblade-caused smoke for spren? I need to know if there really are chasmfiend spren for the spren catalogue. Anyone have any clue?

  16. I combed through the lovely land of Stormblessed to come up with this hopefully comprehensive list of articles they have that we don't. (I tried to leave out ones that I was aware we already had listed as red links.) There may or may not be several typos between me and the Stormblessed folks.

  17. We've got a rereads of Elantris and Warbreaker going to add in all the information we can get from canon material, so... Mistborn or Way of Kings rereads? Or you could go through the Brandonothology that zas put together and pull out stuff from there.

But I'm not in charge of anything, so i don't really know.

It seems to me that the Mistborn part of the wiki is the most fleshed out, so maybe Way of Kings?

I know that Brandon is hoping that a fan site could put together an Ars Arcanum for Way of Kings, since all it has is basic magic listings. (you know, list of most major and minor characters and cultures).

Hm, true. Well, so far I'm leaning towards a Way of Kings reread, first to complete the chapter summaries (unless whoever started that really wants to finish that themselves) and then to fill in the Ars Arcanum stuff. As soon as I get my copy of WoK back from my friend, who is at this moment weeping over the travails of Bridge Four.

  18. Chachel, your ketek is pretty good. An attempt is far better than nothing. And that was a great attempt.

Thanks, Studier. I definitely don't aspire to be a poet (only to pass the poetry assignment in English) but I really admire people with actual skills! Also, I had multiple people tell me how interesting they thought the form of my poem was and compliment me on coming up with it. So I had to explain its actual origin... haha.
