Hey, if any of you guys are near Utah County tomorrow (3/12), you should come by the American Fork Library. We're having a Sander-Celebration from 11-3. You can participate in bridge run reenactments in the park, book discussions, and all kinds of fun worldhopper activities! There will also be some awesome prize drawings (extra entries for costumes)! If you're in the area, stop in and say hi--and maybe help us carry a bridge!

Foam-core hobby board and a lot of hot glue will get you there if you have the budget.  We made some pretty big stage sets out of them in high school and those needed to be light enough for a pair of stage-hands to move.  You just have to sort of box out the structural parts to stiffen them up.  

 

Paper mache might be cheaper though, since you can do it with scrap newspaper and cardboard boxes.  But that might take longer to build

 

Yeah I think regular sized foam core board is what I'll probably end up using and just hot gluing together. I got so excited about the possibility of an actual bridge that could possibly hold some weight, that I didn't realize the practical answer is to just use mostly cardboard type stuff and paint it to make it look cool. It'll be a fun photo op either way. 

I'm back with another request for help with my library Sander-Celebration.

I had this CRAZY idea that it would be fun to try to somehow have a Nerf Bridge Run in the park outside the library. I was thinking of creating a lightweight "bridge" of some sort for people to run with across the park while other people shoot nerf arrows/darts at them. 

What could I use that would be big enough to fit at least 10-12 people under, but that wouldn't be too heavy for them to run with if they haven't trained with Bridge 4? I think solid wood would be too heavy, plywood might possibly work, but would still be pretty heavy. I've been trying to find a source for some kind of foam piece big enough and stiff enough to paint like a bridge, but so far, I can only find either memory foam (thick and light enough, but pretty expensive) or thinner foam boards that I could stack, but so far the bigger ones (6x10 feet) I've found only ship if you buy them in bulk quantities. Anybody have thoughts on where I might be able to source something like that? 

Other ideas on what I could make it out of? Ideas about other places I should cross-post this?

Hi guys, hopefully I'm in the right place for this. If there's a better place to ask this, I'd love some redirection advice!

I'm a public librarian planning a "Sander-celebration" at our library for next month. We'll be having book discussions, games, etc. I'd like to come up with a couple of fairly simple crafts that we could put out for people to do, but I'm coming up blank. Everything I've thought of so far is too complicated (knit a doomslug like at dragoncon), too messy/long (epoxy resin spheres) or too simple and potentially expensive (vials of metals). I need something that will take a few minutes of effort to complete, fairly inexpensive materials, no special talents, or permanent mess. Is there such a thing? I'm hoping you creative minds can help me think of something!

I thought you guys might want to see the final versions of the posters I made to take to the airport when our missionary comes home next week! Thanks for all your help!

@Narcoleptic Axolotl Oops, thanks for the heads up! I'm clearly not well versed in forum ettiquite. I didn't realize it was frowned upon, but I did actually mean to post it together. I was just doing it on my phone and accidentally posted before I was done.

Thanks. I'm a huge Sanderson fan too, so the idea came easily. I hope he likes it!

Having said that, I've done my share of dropping the ball as a mom. And also, different moms show love in different ways. I'm sure your mom adores you and is proud of you even if she shows up late with no signs.

Hey guys, I thought this thread might be able to help a Mama out. My Sanderson loving son is coming home from his mission next month and I'm trying to think of Cosmere quotes that would work for signs (maybe t-shirts?) at the airport. Stormlight is his favorite, but no RoW spoilers.
