The lord of scars himself graces me with his presence!

YES! and we know he survived due to Rysn’s novella

Yeah, I’m just seeing the edit now, I should have assumed that there was gonna be one, buts it’s 1 am here and I am tired as damnation

I heard this thrown around somewhere, likely on a post about Vyre’s miniature model, but I think it might be cool if we see Vyre/Moash go on a redemption arc and join dust bringers. I doubt it will happen, as I’m like 90% sure that Vyre/Moash will be Odium’s champion, but it’s a cool thought imo

Yeah, I wonder if it has something to do with him being a (by Vasher/Zahel’s system), a type 2 invested entity “dead man walking”

So, as far as I understand magical healing in the Cosmere, everyone has a spirit web, which is how they truly view themselves/see themselves, possibly to an extent they themselves don’t even realize. When they are wounded, when investiture is applied their physical body is brought back to the spirit web and how it viewed itself. If someone has a wound for too long, the spirit web incorporates this wound into itself, seeing it as part of its personal truth/body. This is why Those who can perform regrowth can’t do it to anyone who’s been injured for too long, ie someone who’s lost a limb months ago cannot have it regrown. Yet those who swear radiant oaths (The Lopen and Gaz specifically) have their disabilities (missing arm and missing eye respectively) healed, even though it has been (presumably) years since the injury occurred. What is different about radiant spirit webs and/or invested people’s spirit webs compared to “normal” people’s spirit webs that allow this?

Ah, that’s probably it. Yeah, looking back at it, Kaladin did get his blade on the third ideal. But I’m still confused as to why he was able to draw in Stormlight before he even had KNOWN about the ideals (life before death, etc.) while Szeth, after saying those words, could not. Kaladin couldn’t have believed in those ideals if he hadn’t even known they existed yet

First, love the aluminum box theory, tho given It’s HOID I assume he’s figured out some inane way to make it move on it’s own. Second, I see, so rosharan magic is the only magic we have really seen that is truly Tying people down. Also, I don’t know about metallic arts. You say that spren are direct manifestations of a shard, but HOID got his allomantic powers by DIRECTLY consuing a bead of lerasium, which I believe is a physical manifestation of Preservation (as atium was to Ruin). So I feel like that would, by the same definition, change his spirit web, connecting him to preservation

Thanks! I’ve been a fan of Sanderson since start of the pandemic, and I’m really excited to finally get to talk to other people who actually know about his work! (Most of my friends haven’t read his stuff, and many of them aren’t big enough readers to be willing to try out his books, given their density)

Ah, good to know, I’ll keep that in mind

So, I’m on my 10th or so read through of SA, and just started RoW again. We learn during the evacuation of hearthstone that Kaladin has lines of squires ready, but that he needs Spren for them to say their third ideal and become full knights. In earlier books, specifically the end of WoR (when Kaladin earns his blade) and End of Oathbringer (When Teft and The Loren earn their blades/become full knights) it is on their second. As well, though this deals with Skybreakers rather than Windrunners, back in Oath bringer, when Szeth is joining the SBs, he says the first ideal, but cannot consume Stormlight, unlike both Vathah (who seems to have done it without saying and ideals at all) or Kaladin (who also seemed to have done it without saying oaths) is this because the skybreakers are more “orderly” than other sects of Radiants? In general, the rules for ideals and progressing through radiancy have seemed somewhat inconsistent throughout the books, the only true consistency being that you get your armor at the 4th Ideal. Actually, we also never seem to see Nale in his armor, even though we know he is a sky breaker of the 5th ideal. Sorry for the rambling, more ideas come to me as I’m writing out this post.

I think the Alloy of Law is my favorite book, purely based on action scenes/gunfights and the fact that I'm a sucker for Westerns. But I absolutely love Oath Bringer. I personally find a lot of solace with Dalinar, as I myself have been on a journey of self-improvement the last few years. Many of the philosophies of Stormlight Archive speak to me, and I find relatability and solace with characters like Dalinar and Kaladin. As well as the finale at Thaylen City is glorious, I even put together a spotify playlist just for whenever I re-read it. I'm currently on my (10th?) read through of Stormlight Archive, And i love how every time I re-read it I come across something new, some new connection or foreshadowing

So, we know that Hoid/Cephandrius has multiple different powers. We know he has Allomancy, breaths (Heightenings), and most recently, lightweaving. In RoW or OB (Can't remember which) we are told that when someone is invested with a specific shards power, for example knights radiant, they are bound to that shards sphere of influence. Mraize tells Shallan she can never leave the Rosharan system. So if Hoid has multiple powers from different shards, how has he managed to avoid being bound to those systems?
