  1. While Indifference is "I knew this awful thing was happening but I choose to ignore it and now I feel bad about it, Ignorance would be something like "This awful thing was happening before my eyes, and I could have done something about it but I didn't knew, and I feel about it".
  2. I have this other list with 9 sins, what do you think about it? Envy Wrath Selfishness Avarice Indifference Lust Cowardice Ignorance Radicalism I made it defining Sin as the different roots of someone's remorse.
  3. I'm using the basics of the Cosmere to build my own magic systems, I don't like some of them are similar, but I'm trying to be original. Now, 9 is an important number for this magic system (all the others also have a number) and I'm building around that. I liked the idea someone give me earlier: "I think the simplest dividing line for separating sins is by what type of sin caused the initiation. the sin they committed to become an initiate becomes their category for what powers they get. the individual power should be reflected by the sin so they are constantly reminded of what they did whenever they use that power, causing further trauma, self loathing, guilt, and causing the crack in their soul to widen and allow even more impurities in. for the sin of inaction in the face of tragedy they might make themselves ethereal, both untouchable and invisible yet still capable of seeing and hearing their corporeal surroundings. every time they slip into the ethereal they are reminded of how powerless they are, how little they can affect the world, and how the only thing they can do is avoid what matters." Do you think this could be applied to the basic 7?
  4. Okay, I’m building this magic system called Corruption, but I have problems to define powers for its users. I want to use the idea of Sin to divide them in 9 different groups. What could I do? Corruption Corruption is the magic of bad feelings. Those who can access this magic are called Plagues Initiation For a person to become a Plague, first they need to be broken, this happens through physical or mental trauma, this cracks the soul of the person and allows an Impurity to get inside the person’s soul. For an Impurity to get inside of a person, that person must commit a Sin, an action for they cannot forgive themselves, starting to see themselves as monsters. Those who don’t feel remorse or pain for their actions cannot access this magic. The same can be said of those who can kill someone believing it’s right. It’s curious how animals in their limited reasoning can become Plagues too. Impurities Some call them demons, shadows, malevolence. Impurities are born from the collective pain of humankind, and they are attracted by the negative emotions of a person. Impurities work in a parasitic way, they feed upon the soul of their guests, causing at the same time Plagues a need for blood, to avoid Impurities feed upon their souls. Mechanics The more they use their magic, the thirst of blood increases. If they don’t drink blood, eventually the Impurity will consume their whole soul. This magic changes their body to pair it with the mental image they have of themselves, so they end up becoming literal monsters.
  5. @Quantus In fact, I’m using the basis of Sanderson, for a magic system that would work in the Cosmere, but is my own creation (although it wouldn’t work cause I added some things, but the basis is practically the same). So, I have a SpiritualWeb, but in my setting is called Anima, and is divided in parts (which this system have names for, like the chackras, I don’t know yet how to use them or how affects the magic), and it’s damaged through trauma. Exactly, the last threshold is the threshold of death. I’m thinking in not exactly makes you immortal (but may be a way to exploit it to make you immortal), lt gives you a second air until you finish your business, once you’re satisfied with what you achieved, you’re free to die (but of course this is something nobody or almost nobody knows, and you can count the number of people who has crossed this threshold with the fingers of one hand, in all the story of mankind). I don’t think I would have something like Hadouken or Kamehameha, and if I would, I think will be something more subtle. I don’t know the limits for each threshold yet, but If I would choose something, it would be like Surgebinding, you advance through thresholds, you get more specialized, so the use of Ki gets harder. Like the Stormlight, you can do some raw things that’s inside of the of the sphere of your Surges, but while you advance through Oaths, you can do refined things. Like the three lashes of Windrunners. And the focus in this magic would be training. Once you can use your Ki, you can use it for minor effects, and it’s the same for everyone, but when you start to train this use and focusing in some way, you start to learn how to use it for one purpose or other. The thresholds gives you control over the Ki (and some power boost), so in low levels it’s difficult to control, and not always work the way you want, when you cross a threshold is easier to use. So as the focus is the training, In-universe are different schools that train people in a specific use of the Ki. But I need more rules about what the Ki can and can’t do. The rule of Ki can be transferred through organic objects, but can’t go through inorganic objects has some nice mechanics as a result like: you can train to cure, or you can train to destroy inorganic objects, or you can craft weapons of wood and charge them with Ki, or if this would be in the Cosmere someone who can cover their body with Ki would be immune to Shardblades (thought the hit still would do high, is a hit with a metal weapon, so you still need some armor). Also, I’m sick of elemetal magic, so I want to avoid that in this magic. Or if I would incorporate it I want it to be sufficiently different. Now, I need to clarify something, this is just a draft and probably it won’t be the final magic system. The basic of the basic is the philosophy “you can overcome everything with your own power”, everything else is just an idea and I’m not married to anything yet. I choose Ki, because Japan has a similar culture based in not giving up, which in their stories gets the magic of Chackra, Ki, Nen, Hamon, and similar things. The thresholds is just an idea I had to order things a little. But nothing of this is final. I had other ideas like the focus being mudras, each mudra had a basic effect on Ki, and their combination is what defines one effect or other.
  6. @Quantus Actually, the idea of thresholds are different from chackras. The philosophy behind this magic system is “you are capable to overcome the problems with your own power”. The thresholds born of the idea of “limits”, what does limit you to be better? Or what does limit you to get what you want? So the thresholds are moments of great stress in the life of every individual that may be mortal or highly harmful (physically or mentally) if the person isn’t prepared. The threshold of birth is the very first challenge all living things face. You’re fighting for your right to live. When you overcome, the Ki just keeps you alive. The threshold of fear is that fear that in danger times and freezes you. When you overcome, the Ki inside you “awakens” and gives you a brief boost to your physical and mental skills. That is the basic idea, with superior thresholds giving you, I don’t know, more control, new characteristics to your Ki, new capabilities and new restrictions. I’d like the Ki serves to a lot of purposes, but you need to train what you want to do. So, In-universe there are lots of schools that have specialized training to form a person in a specific use of Ki.
  7. Hey. As the title say, I’m building a magic system based on the concept of Ki, but I don’t want it to be like the ones in DB, Naruto, and the others. I know HxH has a better system and I’m already reading it for references, but still I want to ask you if someone has some idea to help me shape it. I like the idea of JJBA, where Hamon can be transferred through organic matter but can destroy inorganic objects. I’m searching for ideas of the sort. My own idea is to organize it like a hierarchical system: There are thresholds, when you go through a threshold you are more powerful, have better control of your spiritual energy, and you can do more things with it. Of course, you need physical and mental training to be able to go throught it. -Threshold of birth -Threshold of fear -Threshold of pain -Threshold of suffering -Threshold of pain
  8. Helou, everybody. Greetings from México. In my previous post I told you that I'm writing 14 magic systems for the world of Anima Beyond Fantasy, because I want to write some stories set in this world, but the magic of Anima it's made to play and not for storytelling. So I want to ask you for some brainstorming that help me to do some Brandon Sanderson inspired magic systems. Why 14? Because in this world there are 14 entities we can call "gods": The Beryls, Daughters of the Light; and Shajads, Lords of Darkness. I will give you some lore. We have another two entities, the Yin-Yang of this world: C'iel, Lady of the Light; and Gaira, the Dark Lord (one isn't good, and the other isn't evil). C'iel is associated with light, the element that represents man's most positive emotions, such as love, happiness and hope. It's philosophical principle is the pursuit of equality for al Gaïa's peoples, in the hopes that one day, order and prosperity will be achieved. Nevertheless, C'iel has a negative face too, and at times it does approve of measures that almost betray the very ideals she stands for. Gaira is associated with darkness and many of man's most torturous behaviors and feelings. It's ideology stands for Gaïa's evolution, developement and stability, even if he path to achieving is a terrible one. Pain, sorrow, even hatred and strife are only nuances that need to be overcome to reach progress and finally, happiness. From its standpoint, the most powerful individuals must become leaders for the rest. The strong rule over the weak and protect them. We could call C'iel and Gaira the "mother" and "father" of Beryls and Shajads respectively; but these two aren't that important to me, and in my story they divide from something like Adonalsium, and later they divide in Beryls and Shajads. In the next section I left you a description of each Beryl and Shajad, the concepts I'm interested in developing and my own ideas for each one at this point, feel free to make recommendations, brainstorming, critique, ideas of how the systems could relate among them, and whatever you want contribute to. Some guidelines I'd like to implement, feel free to ignore them: -Each Beryl and Shajad has a number, the magic system needs to reflect that number in some way. (The number will be next to the name of each Beryl and Shajad) -Each magic system needs to have a fuel, a focus and some way of Initiation - I'm already working on a story for the magic of Gabriel: Emotional Spectrum, starring by twins.
  9. @Ixthos Those ideas are awesome. Thanks, friend, you’ve been really helpful
  10. I wrote the system thinking that one individual can use only one of the six powers, like mistings from Mistborn. But I was thinking on how a person could access to more powers, I don’t want to use the Mistborn way.
  11. Why is green hatred? •Think lt like a chromatic circle. Green is the opposite to Red. So, if Red is Love, Green has to be Hatred. Can we swap blue and purple? for color mood asociation. •Yes, but that would swap Yellow and Orange of place maybe have hatred be a red/black color? •Yeah, but that way it wouldn’t be a chromatic circle. Anyway that's what I have for the moment, looks good. Thanks
  12. Greetings to all of you from México, this is my first post in the web. Maybe some of you have heard of Anima Beyond Fantasy. I'm in the task to write a magic system for each Beryl and Shajad due to their similarities with the Shards, just for fun. I want some advice, brainstorming, critique and whatever you can contribute to this. First, I want some critique about this magic system based in emotions, lets call it "Emotional Spectrum" due to a lack of a better name. It's origin is the Beryl Gabriel. Those who can use this magic are able to use the colors to fuel their magic. Each color is associated to a emotion and a power, you only can absorb a color if you are feeling the right emotion. The stronger is a feeling, less color need the magic. Red - Love - Make bonds Orange - Curiosity - See emotions and bonds Yellow - Hapiness - Increase and decrease emotions (Yes, I take this from Mistborn. I'm open to other suggestions) Green - Hatred - Cut bonds Blue - Fear - Make illusions Purple - Sadness - "cloud" of mental immunity Red: Love allows a Bondmaker (I'm open to new suggestions for names) to create connections between individuals. There are many ways to use this. A Bondmaker could link two persons to make them able to communicate no matter if they talk two different languages, or feel what the other is feeling physically and mentally. or know where is each other; could make a bond whit a group to communicate no matter the distance, or connect two individual to make one able to learn the skills of other. A Bondmaker can only "close" those trails but never cut them. Orange: Curiosity allows a Truthseer to see the emotions and bonds that connects people. When a Truthseer use this power the world around them turns greyscale and they can see the emotions like an aura and bonds like a threat, each one of the color corresponding to that emotion. A trained Truthseer can see more shadows of the basic six and with that more specific emotions. Truthseers are the only ones able to see through the illusions of a Lieweaver. Yellow: Hapiness allows a Emotionshaper to increase or decrease the emotions of one or various individuals. A Emotionshaper cannot increase and decrease emotions at the same time, and can't increase a emotions a person is not feeling. Green: Hatred allows a Linkbreaker to cut the bonds between people. It's easier to cut a feeling connecting two individuals than to cut the whole bond. Cut the whole bond needs a lot of color and an intense Hatred. Cut the whole bond means that the feelings and memories related to that bond disappear. Cut all bonds of a person is like to erase it from the world. Blue: Fear allows a Lieweaver to make illusions. The bigger need to be a illusion, more color needs. Purple Sadness allows a _________ to create a "emotional cloud" that prevent others from modify the emotions and cut the bonds of those who are inside the cloud. The bigger is the cloud, more color needs.
